Haynes Motor Museum Breakfast Meet

Recommended Posts

Every first Sunday of the month Haynes Motor Museum has a breakfast meet from 9am to 12am. If you haven't been to Haynes before it's a brilliant museum in Sparkford near Yeovil by the A303. Ideal stop off point on the way to Devon and Cornwall.

The breakfast meet has been going for a while now and it's getting very popular. Basically a morning where car enthusiasts can rock up in whatever they have and go for a browse on other people's cars.

Very much a extreme mix of cars. From fake Ferraris to real Ferraris, Fiesta ST to Sierra Cosworths and from Hyundai Traget to badly modified Civics. Everything goes.

I've been meaning to go for a long while and decided I would have a jaunt up in the Jag before I sold it to see a couple of mates there. As usual, the trip in the Jag was largely uneventful. Only issue I had was being low on fuel. As it was Somerset, most of the petrol stations were closed on a Sunday morning.

Anyway enough of the chit chat, time for some photos. Literally hundreds of different cars and I couldn't photograph them all. So I picked out some of the more unusual or special ones.

This is a typical sight. Modern Alfa 4C next to a CX turbo

The 4C was also near this scruffy Merc. Not sure why I took a picture of it but never mind. Probably because there was many pampered cars on this row and then there was this...

Another typical sight. Chevy Suburban next to an E type. Which is next to a DMC and yet another modern Mustang.

Yes this is a real DB5.

Loads of American stuff - especially Mustangs. Here is a generic Mustang for an idea

Possibly not one for this forum, but these are phenomenal machines. a4a34d43092b5c2946c0ad68247e44d5.jpg

Front brakes were insanely big.

As you would expect there is a fair amount of British stuff. Especially P6s.

I have no idea why these are so expensive.

I took a picture of this not because I liked it but because someone obviously spent a lot of time on this.

If you've got this far, time for some odd ball stuff.

Invacar replacement.

Owner bought it on eBay as a last minute bid. The owner before him obviously lavished a lot of attention on it. Apparently it all worked except (disappointingly) the speaking computer.

I loved the fact that they proudly say "Chrysler Electronics" on the dash, as well as "FRONT WHEEL DRIVE". As if those things are the best things ever...

Finally to clean your eyeballs out from that onslaught, here is a lovely Italian vehicle.

I mentioned that I went to see a couple of mates. Here is our cars.

Jag you'll recognise. Clio is my mate who I bought the TT off which the Clio replaced. The Aston is another mates car.

That Aston is really something else. My mate inherited it from his Dad. Insanely expensive to run but also insane car. Fitted with a 6.0l V12 and a single clutch automated manual. I've literally never been in anything so quick.

You get in and you can smell and feel premium. Last time I had that was going in a rather expensive yacht.

This gives you some idea of it on the road. I was struggling to hold the camera still on those changes.

Absolutely stunning.

I was really smitten with this car. One of those few vehicles that are in another league and incomparable to anything most people could ever own.

Shame I could never afford one. Even if I could buy it, the running costs are on another planet. £750 a service every year which I thought was quite reasonable. However those brake discs and pads ... £10k to replace them all round. Clutches are similar price too.

The really fucking stupid part of me keeps looking at sub-£40k DB9s and Vantages as an alternative to a second rental property....

That £16k DB7 in the liability thread that only* needs brake pipes for the MOT would suit you sir, leaves enough over for repairs a smaller rental property too.

Next time I go, I want to have a poke around the museum though. Didn't get a chance this time as wanted to get back to start welding while the weather was nice.

I've been to a couple of Haynes meets this year and always like the variety. Looks like quite a quiet one this month.

I did hear that. Still pretty busy when I went. Cars flowing in and out all the time though.

Beaulieu was on and I believe another big car show in the south was too.

Finally managed to sign up with an account I could post on!

Clutch is nowhere near that much, but certainly ain't cheap to run. Just had it serviced, insurance (a surprisingly reasonable £450) and tax (£555) this month, so yeah, ouch. Need to decide on extended warranty (£1808) - tempted to risk it.

Really its a car that costs more than my means, but the sentimental side means I'll hold on to it for as long as I can justify it, and the days of being able to run a 6l V12 are numbered really.
