carlo
I fear my wonderful Peugeot 405 2.0 Auto may soon need to be put out to grass - the auto box is starting to complain. I'd be super grateful if any of you chaps ever see a 405 2.0 automatic advertised in your local area/rags - please please PLEASE let me know. This is the only car I've ever had which I literally cannot fault, it's just bloody wonderful and I don't want something newer with poxy computers everywhere, or 16 valve engines totally unsuited to automatic gearboxes. I'm after a 1992-1996 series 2 saloon, the lower mileage the better. Thanks!
Milford Cubicle
Found this - must be a petrol, judging by the rev counter. Bit of an incompetent seller.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mreg-PEUGEOT-405- ... 0008006214
carlo
I've seen this, and presumed like you it was a petrol (quite apart from the fact Peugeot never made a 405 diesel auto.)I had a good bit of banter with the seller, assuring him what he had was a petrol and not to put diesel in it etc, etc. Turns out the car was converted to diesel by its previous owner, so he did know what he was talking about. Looks quite a professional job too, and an extremely rare piece of kit.
Milford Cubicle
What an oddity! Is it an HDi lump then?
carlo
No, it was the standard 1.9 diesel turbo. Even the cruise control looked like it had been connected from the engine picture he sent me!
500tops
I thought your signature used to say 'If you ever find a Peugeot 305 GTX, let me know'.
carlo
It did, but I can only drive autos now, and I can't find anything better than the 405.
Spottedlaurel
As you obviously really like the car, why not get the auto ‘box rebuilt? I can certainly see the sense in you getting another (if nothing else you’ll have one for spares), but if they’re that difficult to find?...
