It’s been to the moon, will it come back? No it’s fucked a month after purchase, great buy.

No news yet, can’t remember if that’s supposed to be good or bad, but they were snowed under so they did say it could be a day or two before they got on it. The wait isn’t helping my nerves and 2 miles each way walk to and from work isn’t helping either. Will be more settled once I know the depth of the shit it’s in.

Well that’s fucked things, water pump is fucked and gunk shoved in has also caused issues with other bits so looking at nearly £300 in parts alone, so most likely way over £500 when done. I have never bought a car unseen before so I guess lesson learnt the very hard way. Not really sure what to do with it at the moment as a few other issues have come to light as well. Whatever happens I am off the road for the foreseeable future just as I am trying to get a new business off the ground. Oh well guys could be worse, could at Bridgwater services.

Me too, once I saw the wet sump and the K seal type gunk I was 99% sure it was going to be expensive. At least it isn’t HGF as that would have killed it for sure. Like always it’s just bad timing, I have stuck every penny I have into getting a new business off the ground in the hope of escaping the rat race but that’s done so no point worrying about it and just when you are utterly pissed off with how something turned out the good people of this place step and show you how great this place is including the offer of a loan car. I don’t think I can make the logistics work, but that doesn’t matter, I feel 100% better just for having had the offer made. Massive thanks to that person.

I'm actually looking at buying one of these to run on VEG. Dunno how I missed this thread before. If you decide to get rid LMK!

They aren't great on veg, buy something with the VAG VE 1.9 engine instead.

Wasn't this car due a belt change anyway? It's probably worth investing in, once it's done it should be reliable for a long time.

Same engine as the Audi 100/A6 and they're single tank?

Belt done two years ago, certainly hope it’s reliable if it gets done, I am fucked if not. And had it only need a belt changed it would be about half the money we are looking at, once again trying to bodge stuff makes more work down the line but I guess in this case it worked if as the person who,put in it isn’t the one paying. I still need to work out some of the other issues and see what I can and what the cost will be. At the moment it’s looking just saveable.

Smaller issue that appeared same time as the coolant so has not been a priority was the door not closing properly on cold mornings. It holds on the first latch but not full lock. Any ideas. (Preferably that don’t involve cost).

^WHS.

I pretty much work on the basis that any chod I buy (Unless I'm really lucky or choose a car I can DIY the belt on like the 940) needs £300 or so spending straight away getting the belt and pump done. Admittedly it's a difficult pill to swallow if you're a bit skint but at least having lived with the car for a bit you know it's a gudun' other than the coolant loss dramas.

Not sure on the last point unfortunately, a few bits have come to light that don’t suggest it’s had the easiest time. I need to look for myself but think I can sort them for low input money wise but high time wise but have the advantage they don’t need doing this second.

"Single tank" comes from the Elsbett list, the conversion involves different injector nozzles, fuel heating, etc. The old VAG 6 pot diesel is crap on veg oil too but also listed as "single tank"

Some cars are more suited to straight veg oil than others, and the ones you can use straight oil in with minimal modifications are but a few.

Done some pricing up and the other bits I need aren’t too bad. So as long as the final price when(if?) they source a decent idler and tensioner isn’t beyond the predicted massive kick in the balls then I am going to keep it. Despite the niggles it is a car I like a hell of a lot and if I replaced I would be looking for similar anyway. What I may do is to look for a 7.. to go with it so I run it on classic insurance and do all the maintenance myself, but funds will mean that will be a long time don the line. So as long as it plays ball it isn’t going to the bridge just yet.

Idler & tensioner tend to get done with the belt on most cars I've known anyway.

yup, they just can’t find any at the moment apart from Chinese made plasticine ones. The guy is going to hunt them down for me tomorrow and hopefully they won’t be stupid money. Going for a cheap crap cambelt set only saves about £40 so not worth it.

I might be talking out of my hoop here, but when I was into Volvos, buying genuine bits (even service bits) straight from Volvo was usually pleasantly affordable. Might be worth a chat with the balding greybeard at the parts counter of your local dealers?

Yup, that is where the specialist is trying. They are a well known (round here anyway) Volvo independent and the ‘go to’ place for anything Ovlovy so hopefully they will pull the proverbial rabbit out the bag. All the other parts quoted are genuine Volvo and presently coming at only £40 over random shite I found on the internet so it’s a no brainer which to go for.

I'd be willing to experiment on different blends. Over on the vegoil forum there's a few that have run old VAG 5 cylinder motors on straight veg, or a blend of diesel and veg without ill effect.

It may be worth trying a VW/Audi dealer for good quality parts (engine code for these ones is AEL) but when I'm buying parts I nearly always go genuine Ovlov, and when I go genuine, I go to FRF in Swansea.

Give their parts guys a ring, and quote discount C3 for the Volvo Owners Club. They'll be the right bits first time round, and they're very helpful.

I'm gutted that the V70 isn't being as reliable as it had been for me! I'm surprised at how recently the belts and possibly the pump were done. That can't have been that long before I bought it but I don't remember the seller making a big deal of recent belts and stuff.

Give those guys at FRF a try anyway, their prices can be pretty competitive with discounts of 20-30% ish on lots of bits.

Well this is not proving easy, sadly the guy who is dealing with the parts side is off ill today. These things happen but means I won’t know for sure what is happening until Monday at the earliest. It’s like one of those crap 50s weekly programme where they leave you on a cliffhanger then do the same the next week.

Dan, dan, daaaaaaaaaaan!!

Will the motor vehicle be repaired to an acceptable standard?

Will we see the smile on the face of the owner as he drives it proudly away from the local specialist?

Stay tuned, to find out!!!

mmmm....delicious nicotine..that smooth taste...

Also, this Ovlov DESERVES TO LIVE GODDAMMIT

It will as long as it’s financial doable and I don’t mean financially viable, fuck we are way past that already, it was an expensive example, I then chucked a good few quid at bits to sort the unknown niggles and then this but I do have a soft spot for both big Volvo’s and a lost cause so I don’t think its going anywhere. Sadly it isn’t going anywhere soon either but possibly only looking at a couple of weeks, not the couple of months it was looking at one point. Bit of a shit not having a car for the first time in nearly thirty years, had an event at my daughters school this evening which is ten miles away, had to get the bus. That is a shit awful way to travel. I think spending three hours walking there are three back would have been better. Also causing problems now with me getting to my blood tests but hopefully Father in law will fill that gap (lifts not the blood tests).

As long as it does 497410 mpg for the next year all will be good.
