Popular Post Prote
Well, got it the end of May.... I put my troublesome Subaru Legacy diesel into an auction (DPF andEGR valve failed plus other emissions stuff was constantly going wrong), and bought this old 1993 1.5 Proton from Gumtree with 12 months MOT and 43k genuine miles as a runaround. Except the runaround is so fun I'm keeping it a while. The Proton Owner's Club is amazingly helpful and I got a new cambelt, waterpump, 2 x belts, tensioner for a giveaway price. There's still a Proton dealer (Maple Garage) in Sproatley, near Hull, who got me a new window lifter rail for £14 from Malaysia. The car hadn't been driven for a long time so as it's my only car and a daily driver, I also gave it new plugs, rotor arm, distributor, new CV gaiter, oil and filter change and new air filter. Probably equalled the car's value now in parts but it's reliable and runs/starts faultlessly. Nice to have a car I can tweak It's amazingly comfortable and a two-hour drive across London went without a hitch. Loving the HubNut videos - my latest time-loss activity Cheers Cardinal Wolseley, Split_Pin, oldcars and 56 others

Shonky
Welcome! I absolutely love these. There's a house near us with an immaculate one, similar spec to this. Wouldn't hesitate to have one as my next car. Prote
Prote
Welcome. I suspect you're going to fit in well here.Hahaha! Glad I fit in somewhere. My girlfriend's neighbours said "We drove up and wondered what that piece of s*** was on the driveway..." My girlfriend isn't fussy and likes me and the car! eddyramrod, theorganist, tooSavvy and 2 others

Wouldn't hesitate to have one as my next car.I vaguely remembered them when they were new. Love the fact it's the tough old Mitsubishi 4G15 engine and mechanicals underneath - makes it easy for parts shops to cross-reference. Parts cost pennies too. Oil filter was £4, air filter was £9. After owning a 2010 Subaru where every cost made my eyes water, the Proton is great I'd certainly recommend them. eddyramrod and GrumpiusMaximus

BorniteIdentity
Swans in here with his triple valve and Malaysian upholstery and claims the internet for the day. That looks resplendent in dark blue. Well bought, and good to hear the owners club are being helpful. I always got the feeling it was full of adenoids and arrogance. Prote
It's so nice I'm even willing to overlook those wheel trims.Hahahah. They're brutal aren't they? The owner supplied them free as it only had two rather tatty silver Halfords trims. I believe these cost about £8 from carparts4less.co.uk. I'm trying to find the original Proton ones but they're a bit rare, or if available, very tatty barefoot, egg and BorniteIdentity

There's one guy there who is parts man for the old Protons like mine. He drives one and stockpiles bits when he finds them. I got a Proton Haynes manual from Amazon for £2 so I'm all set... tooSavvy

Prote
That looks top, great purchase. Welcome.Hopefully it'll march on for a few years until the MOT emissions or something kills it off. Still, it's cheaper than hiring a car and it can't really depreciate in value much more! eddyramrod

Prote
Mil's car had a webasto as well.According to the Proton Club, new sunroof seal is £54 from Germany but I've been told but most owners silicone seal them at that point.
