catsinthewelder
Thanks chaps I like Placebo but not enough to get the reference. I did indulge when younger and I'm fairly sure FTP will be involved somehow. Currently sat at Kidderminster waiting for the train to Dorridge. spartacus
Good to meet another of the 'bredren', Rich is a top guy with cool children too! It made a change to have enough time to have a cup of tea and a natter rather than rushing straight off to meet some deadline. catsinthewelder
Honey I'm home It runs very well. I need to fix the aerial, adjust the clutch and replace a tyre but it's great for hooning about. Many thanks to Spartacus for collecting me from the station and supplying me with an ace little car. Popular Post catsinthewelder
Some of you are going to be cross. I decided that tinkering was required today and as DW had the keys for the other cars the Rover needed to be the victim. It needs a tyre, new aerial (anyone got one) and probably a service but they all required going out to buy things.Another thing it needed was a new headliner and I had a spare afternoon. So half an hour of unscrewing, levering and cursing later it was out and 10 seconds after that the fabric was off.I enlisted the kids to help remove the mess underneath. A bucket of soapy water and a scouring pad was helpful as was the vacuum cleaner.Long after the kids had wandered off I was left with this which still wasn't smooth but was as far as I was prepared to go.As it wasn't smooth I glued down a old woolen blanket with PVA as a liner. I folded it in half and glued down the central section on each side before doing the ends.It took a while to get it smooth but wasn't hard. One it was glued down I cut around it leaving a overlap.Once I'd done that I carefully trimmed it close to the edge all around and cut out the holes for sunvisors, courtesy lights etc.Once that was done neatly I started on the outer fabric. Typically I couldn't find the iron anywhere so had to put this on a few inches at a time to stop the creases showing. I also glued to covering fabric as the wool would have absorbed too much glue.Eventually I'd covered the whole thing. This time the overlap was folded over and glued on (still with PVA).Holes were cut out again and it was finished.Reassembly is the reverse of removal with the (vastly increased) swearing in different places.FinishedOr am I?This one is a test and needs redoing. If anybody has some good front door cards spare that would be ace as mine are fooked. vulgalour, Joloke, rainagain and 53 others

MarvinsMom
that is a very cheerful headliner, well done sir! Rover R3 is an ace little car, we had both a 214 one and a Rover 25 version. the 214 was the better of the two, when the inevitable OMGHGF happened that one repaired ok at the first attempt, the 25 one didn't....... catsinthewelder

vulgalour
It will be interesting to learn if PVA is up to the task. That fabric is appalling, I'm disappointed I don't have a shirt made of it.
