That's just a really old issue plate.

They went to blue background/yellow text after that I believe, then on to the more modern white/blue.

No problems at all other than that plate should have been returned to the DMV decades ago by the looks of it... And that's not your problem!

Just make sure it’s got a valid Title certificate (like a U.K. V5) otherwise it ain’t goin nowhere! They won’t let it leave the US without a Title, I know this from experience!

Get the seller to put those lovely black plates somewhere out of sight inside the car too, they can go missing en route during shipping. Souvenir hunters/thieving bastards like them.

The seller says it has a clean title and he will sort a bill of sale and deal with the shipping company so all is looking good. The only downside is he has just mentioned the cracked windshield I expect it will be a nightmare trying to get one shipped with the car unless there is a screen supplier in LA with one. I can get one in the uk but it is 500 quid with one supplier.

Seem to be getting on quite well with Seller. Could he get a mobile fitter out and get a new one fitted. Assume would be much cheaper and you pay the extra.

I would rather have the screen lose as it might need to come out again if I have it painted. Anyway it's all done I have sent the payment for it and bought the bloody thing. I hope it is going to be ok but has cost me just under £1500 including him putting 3 new tyres on it to get it rolling. I just need to get it picked up and on a boat now.

Well it is all paid for and the shipping costs of getting a new screen to the car are slightly unrealistic, over $700 to get a screen to L.A. I have found a used one about 60 miles from the car so will see if I can find a way of the 2 meeting somewhere. All I need now is confirmation that the shipping agent can collect it and it should start it's journey next week.

Great news, that looks well bought that does....It is a very, very long shot but this place re-glazed a Tbird of very similar vintage a few years back and might just be worth talking to.  He is a bit of car hoarder....

Fan-bloody-tastic!

Never really paid much heed to this era of Thunderbird, thinking they were just over-adorned baroque barges for Liberace wannabes while Pontiac GTOs and other early muscle cars were really where it was at in the mid-60s - but this look like all kinds of wonderful, inside and out. Appears that I was wrong.

Obviously shipping will add a fair whack and recommissioning is likely to be an involved process (standing since 1982?), but this does seem pretty bargainous (relatively speaking) for something with this sort of gothic character.

As a contrast, think what this sort of money might get you if you were in the market for a Mk1 Escort...

As this is going to be tax and mot exempt why not get the screen replaced by the insurance once it's here and registered?

I'll be back in the LA area next week if I can help. I might also be able to point you in the direction of a shipper if not already sorted. As for a windshield, I am sure you can better than $700. Where is the screen you found - 60 miles is classed as round the corner here...

ok, ok it doesn't add anything to this thread, given thats my Corgi one i repainted some time ago.

i would like a Corvair, and given that they are "compact" when compared to a full sized sedan, and it shows how big moderns are now!

What a nightmare it has been trying to sort the shipping. I found a company http://www.carshippingmadesimple.com/ who have an easy online quote system and gave a very competitive quote but have gone to shit since. They just haven't answered a single email when I tried to book it and phoning them was pretty pointless so tonight I managed to find West Coast shipping who have got close to carshippings quote and actually seem to want the job so all is on now with collection next week hopefully. Then a bloody long wait to find out what heap of junk I have bought.

Kingstown were second choice as just a little dearer. Pricing is a nightmare as some are in dollars, some quote the total and others only quote US costs. I think I have got there now though. Prices vary wildly though importing from France is so much easier. The total is around 1500 quid which is what I was expecting

I got some more photo's from the seller last night as he has sorted the tyres and it is all ready to go. The windscreen is properly buggered though and it needs a new ignition switch. It is just a waiting game now for it to arrive..image1.jpeg

Now that is really annoying the photo's show the correct way up on my computer but when I load them on here they are all upside down.
