Classics at Willington Dovecote (OMG double Viceroy content!)

It's the second of my friend Mervyn's two annual car shows in his home village on Tuesday. Always a good mix of stuff and a pleasant evening. Note that some other sources give the start time as 5pm but this poster came directly from Mervyn so it should be right.

Good turn out last night and a lot of things I hadn't seen before.

Pontiac Le Mans. Surely the most misnamed car ever. It wouldn't last 24 minutes there.

Coach shite. No stranger to Willington as it used to do the school run from the village.

Ooh, a Vauxhall Viceroy. That must be rare as hen's teeth

Oh, hold on a minute. Common as muck they are.

I had to double-take with that Skoda.  There was a really similar one sandwiched recently that popped up on the forum elsewhere.  Had to check the day this thread was started to make sure I wasn't going to reply to a four year old thread.

That was 2/5 of the U.K. Viceroy population , right there. In fact if the black one was a manual that was 100% of Viceroy manuals.

( usual How Many Left accuracy caveats apply)

In other news, that Bugeye Scorpio looks quite nice, don't know if it's just that I need to visit Specsavers, that particular cars colour/wheels , the fact everything else is so ugly these days, or all of the above. But, I would!

Didn't realise Viceroys were that rare  I quite like the big Vaux cars of the late '70s and early 80s, but didn't realise numbers were quite that low. Seems Opels might be the way to go there??

Didn't Angrydicky have a Viceroy?

That sort of talk would have got you busted down from your 1300L Cavalier back to a Chevette if you were part of Sales Director AngryDicky's team in 1981.

How dare you confuse his Director Class Royale with a mere Regional Managers Viceroy.

As for suggesting cars made by The Boche , how dare you, this company is a proud and patriotic one that will never purchase cars made by Johnny Foreigner, you'll be suggesting the MD gives up his Jag and gets one of those Opel Monzas, next.

Buy British!

Yes, the black one is THE manual. I said to my friend when it arrived that it was probably the rarest car there, then I was absolutely gobsmacked when the red one turned up as well. Turns out both live in Bedford but with different owners. Had a chat with the owner of the black one and we were wondering what happened to the silver one that was at Stondon as he was offered it but then lost track. It has the export marker set so do we reckon it's in Ireland now?

Agree about the Scorpio too and I was genuinely pleased to see it. I hated them when they were new but compared with today's hideous blobs they're actually quite attractive.

The red Capri is the Tickford version I think. Very expensive. Tickford were part of the David Brown group, him of DB fame. I think at the time Ford owned Aston and thus the Tickford name. They are turbocharged - with wood insertions inside the cabin etc. Rare - again I think about 250 made.

It is indeed a real Tickford with a 310bhp turbo 2.8 that sounds like fun, in the dry at least. Only 81 were made and the owner's just had it valued at £50k (it's not mint either). This was before Ford owned Aston - apparently Ford were going to market it as an official model but then pulled the plug after Aston did all the work so they had to sell it themselves. They intended to make 100 but stopped at 81 and they took several years to sell. With all the options it cost three times as much as a standard Capri 2.8!
