What on earth is the deal with that huge plenum after the air cleaner?  Thing takes up half the engine bay...

Looks a lovely motor though, not often something like that comes along in that shape, original and unrestored.

It has had a few "giffer" mods and repairs........I suspect there's quite a lot of plod in it, and there's been some fairly farmyard style welding, which needs tidying up. I'm going to get a large magnet and see what's what..................

Intake silencer by the looks of it. Those big can cleaners don't do much to quieten things down on that side of the engine.

Just been to visit this after a good mate of mine embarked on a weldathon...what started as slightly crispy "A" posts turned into a mission to eradicate every trace of rust...........A posts completely re-fabricated [both sides..] and numerous other stuff....pics to follow....... front wing repaired [dunched in near headlight] Looks really straight now. Next job is to section the door skins so that we can get the rear doors to sit flush..[I'm started to get obsessive about panel gaps and shut lines................]

Just lovely, can't believe I missed this one. The closest I ever got to owning one was the 403 Pedal car I had years ago, it sat on top of my piano for a while until I ended up selling it to someone in the Peugeot club

Ah, Autoshite. The only car forum where it's acceptable for the first "proper" picture of your car to include still-wet Vactan dripping down a rusty pillar.

Top chod!

Outstanding work.

It’s 100% essential that we see this in a Giant Test with 320Touring’s Oxford Traveller.

Edit: OK, so Neil had the idea first on page 1. But that just makes it all the more compulsory.

Excellent choice, leggy flat grey estates are for winnah.
We should do a side by side comparison betwixt this n Oxford:)

So..............this is where we are now............In primer, all body repairs done...........advertised it on the owner's club website, and after several of them cocking me about, and after after much deliberation, decided to press on and modify the bejasus out of it.........more to piss them off than anything else. The guy who's done the bodywork is a good mate, and he happens to have a Mk4 Golf 1.8t which has body damage, but healthy mechanical bits............I'll leave you good people to guess what's coming next.......

As no-one seems interested in buying it as is............it's going to get sympathetically modified wider steel wheels, complete Golf mechanics, nice paint job, and re-freshed interior..the original engine and box will live on in another project, but I really can't be arsed with the beardies who seem to infest all owner's clubs.
