Up for sale in my Audi 80, it's a 1.8L 4 cylinder fitted with a Weber carb and manual choke, it has a 5 speed manual gearbox.
The mileage on the clocks is on 250k but it still drives incredibly well - I think it may have had a change of clocks and the mileage is actually much lower but who knows for sure?
For the last mot it had the rear brakes overhauled and had new parts fitted including the drums, shoes, cylinders and handbrake cables.
Overall the car is pretty solid with some wee bits of rust starting to appear on the doors and wheel arches.
There are a couple of faults, there's a sheared wheel bolt in the front hub, it may be possible to drill it out but new hubs are still readily available.
The rev counter doesn't work most of the time, sometimes it will spring to life when driven on a bumpy road so I'm guessing there's a loose connection somewhere.

Recently had a new clutch which made the pedal a bit lighter - it's still pretty heavy though, cable was also replaced and everything greased up so who knows?

It's near impossible to associate this little grey car with its large glass area and clean cut design with the fat dollops lolling along our roads nowadays.

They really are very pleasing to look at aren't they. I borrowed an 80 sport in about 1996 for a bit, with some great graphics down the side. It was lovely. Fast at the time too (both my cars at the time were Hillman Imps).

Those seats look darn tidy for quarter of a million, what's the drivers seat bolster like?

Both seats have bolster wear but I think they might have come from another car because the rear bench looks slightly different material.
I'm not entirely convinced that the mileage is genuine, the mot history only has a few entries since 2006 and there was another set of clocks in the box of spares.

The clocks in the car are probably not original. Look above the rev counter needle it says x5. They came from a 5 cylinder car.....You might have a bit of a quattro in the 80 :-)

I’m surprised this hasn’t gone yet, I’d have thought you’d have found a hipster or a dubber to take it on. £850 sounds a good price.

Yeah, the mot history is also a bit patchy so I thought the clocks might have been changed at some point and the mileage is actually much lower than 250k. It certainly drives a lot better than any high mileage car I've ever had.

It doesn't seem to appeal to Asians or disabled people, tried both Gumtree and Autotrader with absolutely no interest. A guy did ask on Retro rides if it had any service history, I said not very much history at all and he decided he didn't want it...

Go on put it on Gumtree and show us the replies. I love reading the begging letters and the derisory offers.

Can't believe no Scottish shitter has bought this, with a bit of TLC to those rusty bits and an upholstery clean it's a good un. Verdict: Scotland gone soft.

So, I had a call about this today, the guy wanted to know if the registration plate was original, what the story with it was, how long I'd had it, why I was selling it, If I could send him a photo of the full v5 including the reference number (I thought that seemed a bit dodgy)

I go on to reiterate pretty much what I'd said in the advert and mentioned the clutch had been changed, he asked if I had receipts for the clutch, I said I wasn't sure that I did, he said he'd be able to tell if it had been changed because the gearbox bolts would be shiny - Fuck off you cunt!

I said that the rear brakes had been replaced, he asked for proof in the form of receipts, I don't think I have any but the drums are still shiny.

He said he was a classic Audi enthusiast and asked how much it is to tax, I said around £250 a year, he seemed disappointed and said something about free tax, I said it has to be 40 for that.

He works in a used car dealership in Kirkcaldy so I imagine he's interested in buying it to sell on at a profit. Mrs Foad thinks he's just going to be trouble and I should just tell him to fuck off.

https://www.klmotors.co.uk/

I felt like telling him to fuck off when I was on the phone to him because he basically accused me of lying about the work being done, he said that it's important to keep all the receipts  for when you sell the car but I told him that I got the work done for me not for anyone else down the line, when getting the work done I didn't have a plan to sell it.

The guy just seemed like a bit of a wanker so I'm not entirely sure if I even want to entertain him coming to look at the car, I predict he'll turn up, poke at a few bits and moan about everything and say it looked better in the photos.

I suppose it is an Audi so will probably attract the biggest bell ends out there.

You've got to let him visit, if he can be arsed to actually get out of bed and come and have a look he's shown more initiative than most. He might try to give you a load of bullshit, but you've just got to let it all wash harmlessly over you without it sticking. I never keep reciepts to prove stuff has been done - if I know somehting has been done I tell em, and if they dont believe me, well what can you do? Not your problem. No old car sale has ever fallen through for lack of a receipt for a clutch kit or whatever anyway.

Just tell him you dont want to sell it him.  Its a bit of a mean psychological trick because he will probably really, really want it then.  Everybody wants what they cannot have :)  I wouldnt be keen on giving out the V5 number as previously mentioned.  We all know the logbook has "This document is not proof of [email protected]

" or something similar but still - there is no realistic reason why he should know.

If you are not comfortable chances are its for a reason.  I think we all have a 6th sense of sorts and something seems off it probably is.

No old car sale has ever fallen through for lack of a receipt for a clutch kit or whatever anyway.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't keep records of absolutely everything, he even asked where I bought the parts from and if I had any online invoices for proof. He asked how much the parts were and how much labour was.

I do have a list of the brake parts I bought from Autodoc.co.uk but I think I bought the clutch from a local motor factors so there's no online proof, both the brakes and clutch were renewed at 2 different local garages for cash who don't hand out invoices with their work.

I'll definitely be going along tomorrow to shine up those bellhousing bolts.

The funny thing is, it didn't even need a clutch, the pedal was (and still is) quite heavy and I thought seeing as the clutch cable was new that a new clutch might lighten things a little but it didn't make all that much difference.

I just know he's going to try and lower the price and pick at things so I look forward to telling him to fuck off.

Defo dont start trying to show him proof of buying stuff, just tell him you've got nowt. If you know you've done it thats it. If he chooses not to believe you, its his time he's wasting travelling to view cars then discounting them for incorrect reasons.

The clocks in the car are probably not original. Look above the rev counter needle it says x5. They came from a 5 cylinder car.....You might have a bit of a quattro in the 80 :-)

The seats and clocks are from an Audi C GT 5E, the steering wheel from a B or C facelift. The entire car looks like an interesting B-platform puzzle.
