pandamonium
I was wondering earlier, while suffering in 30 degree heat and no air con (My Mini), what the cheapest car with Air con would be. I saw an air conditioning unit in Argos for 100 quid (for in the house) but it lead me to think about just buying a cheap banger to keep me cool for the next few weeks... Kiltox
It’s working air con that’s the hard bit Also, the £100 unit in Argos isn’t air con it’s an air cooler - you put ice water in it and it belts out slightly colder air than a fan. Real air con units start at £250 or so. cobblers, Shep Shepherd and oldcars
doubleyeller
My 2001 Civic has working aircon and is £200. That autobreaker is offering a bit more than £200 over the bridge if you want to run it for the summer and get your money back. I just can't be arsed driving it to the west midlands or wrecking a usable car. I'm in Somerset if your interested. pandamonium

pandamonium
Good point kiltox. The Mini has Air con but it blatantly needs repair as it was only regassed in September and produces zero coldness. So factoring at least £150. Engine also needs a de-coke, so another £250 plus. So was thinking of spending my spare cash this month on a banger with Air con and fixing the Mini later in the year...

Vince70
The other half has posh aircon (climate) in the Peugeot 206 and it works a treat it also has auto lights and wipers and some parrot in the glovebox with built in charging cables and a nice radio all for £250. We took it for a fresh MOT this month and it went straight through without spending a penny on it. I wouldn’t mind but I can find these bargains for everyone else but never myself also doesn’t the mini have an aircon system that keeps the glovebox cool. SiC
The Saab 9-5 had noisy but working Aircon and I sold that for £180... Did you ever figure out and get working Aircon on that similarly priced Scenic II Kiltox?
Zelandeth
My record was my first Xantia which was £295 and ten minutes sorting the power supply to the fan motor which had melted it's connector off. Xantias seem to do surprisingly well on the working A/C count as the condenser is pretty well protected from stone damage as the fans are front mounted. They're also worth next to nothing... Broadsword
Our solution was to go to Scotland for a brief while. It’s currently 17 degrees C up next to Jura and is raining on and off. Quite refreshing. Working air con also on offer with the Xantia of excellence. egg

forddeliveryboy
The cheapest solution for us Yorkshiremen for the first month and more of the hot weather was to drive to the coast - the fret could be seen from 100 miles away. The day I collected a bike from Redcar, the temp dropped from 26 to 17 a mile and a half from the coast, which was weird since the sun was still shining. vaughant
My Leon has perfect Aircon but sans MOT, Derv and yours for £200, shouldn't need a lot to get through, maybe a screen (cracked but not drivers side) but that could be done for £75 extra. vaughant
Christ I just got offered £236 for my Leon on there but with sans MOT and the fact is in Swindon it could be a gamble to take it there even with a pre booked ticket. So much so I had patches of condensation on the outside of the windscreen whilst driving this morning.Compressor makes a grumbly rumbly sound though.... Do they all do that sir? dollywobbler
I've only owned one car with working air con - a £375 Alfa Romeo 164 V6. I've owned many cars that should have had it. Had the 600 regassed after a split pipe was replaced. It lasted all of about a week. 45 is going in for a checkover on Thursday. Actually so cold in Wales today that I'm wearing long trousers.
