I’m away till next Saturday but can check mine for reference then if you like. Same model and year exactly. I have a feeling it moves around a bit also.

Compared to Fraud_Senior's Xantia, that does look like a fair bit of play.

 

I presume the tester is worried that the pivot or its mounting is about to fail ; haven't heard of the former happening, but you do see broken welds and cracked bulkheads on occasion (VAG shite, in my experience).

Thanks folks, I cannot for the life of me look up to the mounting bolts to see for any damage/ play. Going to have another go in a minute, for information check this movement out on the Toyota!

So, bit of an update.

Still awaiting the V5 which is naughty of a Citroen dealer, so I'm sending the new owners slip and V62 form off.

 

I had a mare with the rear bearings, one went on fine and the other made a mess of the axle thread. Maybe it was cross threaded, who knows.

Rounded disc bolt was persuaded after reshaping with a dremel.

After many hours swearing (and an unconventional method of aligning the ARB bolts) it was done.

More updating...

 

On to the front now, and I stuck the car in for its MOT, I went to a decent place nearby as suggested by Wingz (thanks for your help) and the chap there was sound to deal with, will use again.

 

The first place told me that one side of the steering gaitor was missing. However after finding the exploded diagrams and noting an asymetrical design, the new MOT site failed it on the other side which had a hole. Fair enough, so back up on the jacks for another go...

 

I hear a noise from inside the car (Daddy, can you get me out Daddy?) to find this:

Mini Kringle sorted and back to soaking the track rod end with plusgas.

Old one off, old boot off, new boot on. Lovely. New track rod correctly aligned and fitted.

 

I then wonder why the Mini Kringle's quiet...

KIDS! Luckily no one died and I'm not writing this to you from prision, how she managed to get hold of the pack from hanging up near the ceiling I don't know.

Finished off the oil/ filter changes and called it a day.

 

MOT rebooked a few days later and BOOM, a shiny new ticket.

Right, I've got to let this go because I have a certain Panda 100hp incoming (yes, that one).

 

Let me post some shots up and see if there's any expression of interest.

 

It's a W Reg Xantia 2.0HDI 90 Forte model (swish) with a full ticket, good tread on its tyres and suspension that goes up/ down/ and settles in the middle.

The ride isn't jiggly and the aircon blows hot and cold. Temperature settles nicely and there's no smoke whatsoever from this oil burner.

 

Pace is pretty good considering its size and also only being a 90.

Nothing is broken inside, brakes are typically Xantia pants being devoid of feel.

Clutch biting point is dead on, no slippage however it is heavy and can squeak, I lubricated the linkages but that didn't resolve it.

Steering is solid, slight wheeze when turning left.

 

It's done 75,500 miles and the car is as far as I can see, rust free. It spent a decade in spain and there is a date of 2013 for the cambelt change, however since 2008 it has done 9,000 miles so it can't be old.

 

It has plenty of marks and bad touch ups due to Giffer-ness and I will post the pictures up.

 

I need to prove to Mrs Kringle that I can have a car and not lose money on it, so if I could get £600 from a Shiter it will soften the blow to the news of a Panda who's lost a fight with a badger.

Insurance for me was £285 which isn't bad, not a classic policy either.

Bad luck on the pedal fail. When I took my Rover for its first test, it failed on the handbrake moving from side to side, though the brakes held fine. Turned out that all 4 bolts holding the assembly to the floor had come loose.

 

Hopefully, your pedal problem will be the fixings holding everything to the floor. Nice looking car, by the way, and a great price. Good luck with it

Broadsword, you take the middle bolt out of the caliper to remove the pads then the only thing to remember is to put the bolt back on, tightly, before taking the two big caliper bolts off. Otherwise muchos fluidos loss.

 

Brake hose seemed sturdy enough, no more fragile than any other car.

The intermediate setting is great for navigating floods in the road, but you can't drive on full low or full high.

 

One of the best nights of my life was accidentally booking a Travelodge by the Peterborough showground the same weekend that a pineapple vw show was on when I had the xm. I rocked up in the car park and parked right in the middle of a line of slammed vw shit, and dropped to the floor. Got a sea of confused faces as my car was lower than the vw tat, walked away smug!

 

Id love another xantia, but wouldn't be able to get the worry of the plastic clutch clip out of my head after it failing twice on my last one, which is a shame as I enjoyed mine immensely!

The pen clip on the glove compartment in yours is intact.  Therefore my Xantia is worth at least 400 clams fewer than your Xantia. 

And that, indeed, is rather depressing.

My pen just rolls around the car, unfettered, detached from any real place of captive security.  Occasionally on its daily haphazard journey around the car's nether areas it will meet the coffee cup.

Its only peer in a holder-less void.

Well, I've finally begun to crack on with actually selling this thing. It's got a rattle when there is no cornering or vertical loads placed on the suspension. I think it's the anti roll bar bushing.

 

Would £495 tempt any of you chaps? I don't think a roffle will happen as we are inundated with them lately.
