If I didn't already have a 1950s edition of this I would have bought it.

Anyone even half interested in how engines actually work, at the level of their physics, chemistry and fundamental structure wil love this book.

And forever day dream of stratified-charge, two stroke V12s........

Ricardo did just about everything in mechanical engineering. He even had involvement in the 1950s with Oliver Bulleid's turf-burning locomotive for CIE in Ireland. His correspondence with Bulleid at that time carries a heavy suggestion that he didn't think much of Bulleid's ideas or tweaks.
