Volvo V70 (P2) 2002. Silver. £Offers

Hi all,

Thought I'd pop this up on here before punting it off to ASM to be squished.

It's a 2002 V70 with the 170hp 2.4 naturally aspirated 5 cylinder petrol engine. It's got just shy of 125,000 miles on the clock & mechanically in good condition with a (clean!) MOT until 21st September 2018.

The problem:

As you can see it is cosmetically challenged - possibly terminally. I don't know how this happened as it was parked, but it's been opened up by something large - I suspect a lorry turning into the pub carpark opposite to where it was parked. On the other rear quarter there is also a dent, which I was happy to live with.

I bought the car last September / October (can't remember off the top of my head) with 119k miles on it, so it's done about 6k since it was MOT'd. Engine runs lovely - it really is a great flexible engine to drive. The gearbox seems well - I did have the fluid changed and the adaptions reset not long after I bought it which made it a bit smoother to drive, and it certainly doesn't show any signs of imminent grenadation.

It had a set of front tyres and 4 wheel laser alignment done at 122k - no uneven wear or anything like that. Rear tyres have plenty of tread on them too.

The only mechanical area of uncertainty is the nearside rear suspension. It's clattery and noisy over potholes. Had several garages tell me that it's all OK. I had it into a Volvo specialist who thought it may have been the top mounts, so they got changed but it didn't make any difference. My MOT man says he can't find any reason that it would fail it's MOT on that corner whatsoever. I think the brakes have a slight wobble too, so might need discs and pads.

Everything electric works; aircon blows nice and cold, memory drivers seat works fine, interior in good condidion save for a bit of stitching on the driver's seat seam.

It'd be a shame to see it scrapped at least without some of the good bits on it helping some other cars out - but I just don't have the room or time to break it.

No tax and not insured at the moment, but will happily drive away with the rear quarter gaffer taped up.

Doesn't come with the numberplate, the actual reg of the vehicle is: OV52 HZZ

Located in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.

Open to offers.

Those looking at that wound and flinching should be aware that the engine in that car will still crank and run after two million miles and in the middle of a nuclear winter.

You could also go Lands End to John O'Groats in one sitting without feeling any discomfort thanks to those amazing seats.

The thing is massively comfortable, and the engine & 'box seem to be spot on. I've had it up and down the M1 and it's the best long distance car I've driven.

It's been standing for a few weeks, just been to start it, and it fired straight up like it was driven yesterday - no binding brakes etc...

A phase 2 without etm issues !

Wouldn't mind a bit of that myself.

Does that scrape go right through?

Any interior pics?

The scrape has cut through the outer metal yes.

And the interior looks like this:

It's had replacement clocks by the previous owner (see chrome ring around the dials) and the PCV system was sorted. The engine does whistle as if the PCV system is blocked, but I've done the glove test and it's sucking, not blowing. Someone on a Volvo forum mentioned the noise is likely coming from a slight manifold leak?

My mate bought one of these in 4wd flava for his missus, spent loadsa money on getting it running well etc, then a curtainsider lorry drove past it with the ratchet hanging loose and made a scrape just like this one all the way down the side, writing it off!

I would suggest the same has happened here I'm afraid :(

I am hugely tempted, I really enjoyed borrowing my mate's manuel version of this the other week, an auto would be much better for my needs, but I am in the middle of a complex house move, not to mention doing my good friends' move from Cheltenham to Alnwick this weekend!
