anyone running a Cdti with auto box???

whats the 'real' mpg on these , is it worth getting the 150 'chip' done?

and whats tax like, and how is spares availability???

Have a hankering for a 75 tourer dizzel, with slush box due to falling apart knees/hip!

Got a cdi auto, which has been done to 160. (cdi is 115, cdti is 135 I believe)

Made a big difference in performance, but not a big change to mpg. (may have improved slightly, but did the upgrade early on)

Parts wise, everything is available and there are loads of assistance on the Rover 75 forum. Quite a lot of bods in Brum as well.

Lot of upgrades as well that can be done to fix known problems.. (Handbrake compensator, Air con resistor mod)

Not the best on mpg , as get around 35 day to day.

Got mine two years, and only recently had the first failure. Crankshaft pulley, but this "failed" after driving over a humungous pothole down in Hagley.

Fairly local, so if you want to have a drive of mine get back to me.

Genuinely do love mine.....

Yep same figures as me, though mines running at stock and not remapped to 160. I seem to be getting around 45 MPG on a long Motorway run.

Yep me too, also the air con seems to have quite an impact on mpg.

(Aware it always does but seem to think around 7mpg rather than 3 or 4 mpg)

There are all fine, but some of the last ones were when Rover were in Project drive and having cost cutting exercises, so the leather may not be as nice....

Plenty out there so just keep looking.

All have 4xelectric windows, climate control.

Sunroofs quite rare as were an option.

I would try and get one with Xenons as they make a big difference. (also remote dipping mirror)

Don't forget you have the MG ZT, and ZT-T to look at as well.

Cheers

Dave

Tax on mine is the same as my Jag roughly, £308 for the year but I pay Monthly! So have interest on top of that!

I am loving it though, What a magnificent thing to look at!

<pedant> there are some base models without CC - just temp dials and an aircon button.  They are fairly rare though.

</pedant>

Earlier ones had thicker carpets, more sound proofing and various extra twiddly bits some of which were only visual.  Project drive was a cost-cutting exercise to ......er ahem, save money.

If you see PPD that means the seller thinks theirs is pre-project drive.

+1 on getting factory HIDs - they are worth having.

I'd have preferred mine without a sunroof but it happened to have one.

Rarer options -

Glovebox rechargeable torch - very similar to contemporary BMW 3-series

Harmon Kardon sound - extra amp, better speakers and a sub in the boot or rear load area.

Cruise - last of the vacuum crusiers! separate on/off button on the dash - then steering wheel controls - not as easy to retro fit as say VAG fly by wire throttle stuff as more parts are needed.

Electric rear sunblind for saloons

Self levelling rear suspension for tourer via air shocks - rarer than a rare thing who just found some hen's teeth

Pre-facelift Rovers have softer suspension than the MGs - post facelift they all got the MG version but softer was an option.

Don't pay a premium for Sat nav - it's really old (no full postcode search, not touch screen)and the components are pretty unreliable

Some cars also had trafficmaster with the sat nav - now long since discontinued so doesn't do anything.  When working it got data from Classic FM!

For the full 'experience' I would suggest the top Connoisseur at the very least so you get electric memory leather seats. SE adds cruise and rear sunblind, driver intelligence pack adds rain sensitive wipers, auto dim mirror and rear parking sensors.

Unless you are buying a minter, its hard to work out whether or not its better to buy a cheap one with issues to fix, or a dearer one which runs well now but will possibly have the same issues later.

Differences between pre and post project drive examples are purely cosmetic and unless you are an absolute 75 licker there is little benefit to having an earlier car.

Yeah mine has all of the above. The cruise is pretty good!

I have a diesel manual. I think a good one would be brilliant. Don't buy one needing work, it will bleed you dry. Mine has been a nightmare, miles more costly that any of the old junk i have ran in the past, and the only car ever to sway me to a PCP deal.

loads of good info there...

auto lights are wipers are something I can live without - I know how to operate  light switch and a wiper stalk!!!!!

a/c nice but not a 100% must have

sun roof would like as I find them handy in sunny weather as you can 'vent' the car while its locked..

Like the look of Leather, but cloth wouldn't be a deal breaker either

MG's wouldn't interest me , as rubber band tyres and rock hard suspension would cause my ailments even more grief!!!

Looks like putting the feelers out soon.....

is it worth getting a tourer??? whats the boot space like???

Must admit I think the tourer looks better....slightly better lines..

Roverageous to the Beige Phone please.

I struggled to get better than 36 mpg.  CDT auto with the chippage (apparently).

But that was relying on the BMW-esque trip meter which could have been fibbing, but not wildly as was still having to visit fuel stations regularly.  The experience was not 'sipping it', like my old 50mpg XUD in the Rover 418s did.

Well there's something wrong with that...  Even an Alfa Twin Spark on a shitely mission will better that

I'm getting 31mpg out a 22-year old 160k 5-series BMW 2.5 petrol six, with autobox.  And that's quite a hefty car to shift.

I've filled up the CDT today and it took 56.9 litres of diesel. Over that tank I covered 572 miles - so I make that around 45mpg although the trip computer is telling me 39mpg (reset at last fill).

I had a manual diesel before this and you could easily see 650 miles out of a tank with that.

My auto diesel has the 160 map - which seems to have made naff all difference to the economy but it perked it right up, originally being 116hp which was tiresome. One thing that massively seems to help fuel consumptions coaxing the autobox to lock the torque converter up in 4th before accelerating. If you just plant the throttle and hope for it, it won't lock up until you're in 5th gear north of 65mph. If you feather the throttle at the lockup speed (34mph for 4th gear) and then accelerate (although not hard enough for it to unlock again) you'll see better mpg figures.

Alll have A/c most have auto climate - a few don’t.

As I mentioned, post facelift (04 ish on) you’ll be getting the MG suspension on a Rover anyway. It really isn’t that bad. I had a 2005 Audi A3 - now that really did have awful ride even though the tyres weren’t that low profile. My ZT-T rides like a Rolls in comparison to that thing.
