loserone
Hola, There's a bunch of car events take place at Beamish throughout the year - this weekend was the Morris Owners' club show, and there's a bunch of others - a few weeks ago it was the Steam Rally, and there were a load of traction engines as well as a Stanley Steamer (no, it's not a scatological practice from ScaryOldCortina's parish) looning around the Beamish site. This coming weekend, it's the Beamish Reliability Run, where a shitload of old cars drive 150 miles around County Durham, and then go back to Beamish. The advantage is that even those without tickets (which are expensive if you're only there for a few hours, but worthwhile if you can spend a few days there over a year) can get to see the cars. Here's the route (clickable link to description): We've got a vague plan that we'll go and find somewhere nice to watch the cars go past, and since we've got two under two we'll probably be near a park somewhere - ideally Lanchester in the morning if we can get out the door fast enough, and then probably Stanhope in the afternoon. Any shiters participating, or fancy joining to watch a few racing past? Jim Bell
loserone
I can barely resist also mentioning the Beamish Trophy Trial coming later in the year - not actually at Beamish any more, but check out this video:
Jim Bell
Looks like a good way to spend some of the weekend. What day are you thinking man?
loserone
It's on the Sunday. Reckon we could find somewhere Bally could stretch her legs too, parkhead station perhaps? Jim Bell
forddeliveryboy
I've taken part a few times in a Traction Avant, it's an excellent event and the remote roads allow for some competitively reliable driving. The scenery alone is worth it, the organisers are hugely genial, there are some very interesting cars which take part and at times you forget it's the over-regulated 21st century. More like 1987. loserone and Jim Bell
