Chaps you follow me on a journey to go and collect something I have ALWAYS wanted....something that brings back a lot of memories...

So having had a black coffee, two eggs on toast (duck eggs from my visit to rural Devon at the weekend) I am all set....was tempted to take the pedal bike for the other end as I have a 2.6 mile stretch from the train station...but don’t think my bum is ready for it not having ridden a bike for quite a number of years....

The journey begins now...

Oh and not taking the truck today as I wanted to 1) drive it back and 2) leant the truck to my mate so its in Birmingham as I write...

The journey starts with a 5 minute walk to the bust stop....Number 33...bound for Reading station!!

Reading reached....twiddle my thumbs for 10ish mins and wait for the 11.02am to Plymouth (not that I am going down that far...)

I hope there are charging points on this train!!!

What a lovely day for a collection....lovely blue skies....I’m not going to get stressed!....it takes as long as it takes...

Well after an hour or so I got to Westbury. That train wasn’t so bad - air conditioned at least but leg room a bit tight (at 6ft 6 what do I expect....at least I got a seat!)

Anyhow, on the next leg of the journey from Westbury to Pen Mill in Yeovil. It appears the trains we had up here have come down here as up until recently (they may well still be in service I’m not sure) they were using these god awful rattily old 1 carriage things....but yes as they have brought electric in from Reading all the way into London for Crossrail the old diesel units have come down here to swap out the even older ones....maybe someone on here is knowledgable when it comes to this area...I am merely making an observation!

This train isn’t so good though....stiffling hot and the windows don’t open....

Drives lovely - engine and box perfect - mileage only 119k

Few niggles to sort -

1) Bit of brake judder as you come to a half - suspect warped discs - new pads and discs ordered

2) rear passenger glass needed

3) need to tidy up plastic trim on exterior of car - has gone white in places - will back to black sort this or is it too far gone - suggestions welcome...

4) last but not least I think solonoid on the starter is a bit iffy. You go to start it and nout. So back to ignition then go to start and nout. Few tries and she fires as if the solonoid on the starter kicks in....new starter or new solonoid?

5) air con doesnt work

Anyone have any pointers/advice re this car?

Anyone have any spare bits?...I think a lot of the underpinnings are similar to that of the Galant and brakes etc are all the same (I think) between the Galant’s, Space Wagons and Colts....

Cambelt also needs doing of which there is a cambelt and balance belt that needs changing...this is infact overdue

Hello,

Anyone happen to know where to find info such as....

How many litres and of what oil for the auto box?

How many litres of engine oil?

Thanks - just Google is turning up naff all and there appears to be more info on the 2.4 GDi engined Spacewagons from the early 2000’s than the older Spacewagons like I have...

All advice/help would be appreciated,

Your probably all there wondering if (well maybe not if) but thinking that I must have a screw loose...well yes very likely I do but this shape of Space wagon doesn’t come up for sale every day and when I was a little boy my aunt had one of these. So many memories, i feel in some way that by having one for myself I am reliving old memories....so yes, plan is to get mechanically sound (well timing belt and water pump done) the usual bits then do the holiday runs using the car.... maybe take abroad etc. I pressure washed the engine yesterday and it seems to pick up even quicker than it did!!! Lol maybe I unclogged some oil from somewhere I haven’t a clue...

I LOVE this car even if it is only worth as much as a slap up meal at a Hungry Horse! ;)

I recognised this from the clock picture. My friend's dad had one and we used to time the journey between our houses in it as he ragged it through the lanes. I seem to remember the engine having a really nice growl to it, too.

Yes a nice growl to it - absolutely right! I love it!! Some work to do on it but we’ll see how we go! It drives lovely

Autodata. Get a hooky copy off eBay.

You don’t really need to know the engine oil capacity though - stick a couple of litres in, check dipstick, repeat

For gearbox oil some people drain the old into a clean container and measure it
