HCS =High Compression Swirl which is the engine fitted to MK3 Fiestas in 1.0 and 1.1 capacity.

This has the Endura E 1.3. Hydraulic clutch and probably revised emissions amd management.

My mum has an Escort Eclipse with the 1.3 hcs fitted, dog slow and terrible tappet rattle as it got older, my 1.3 cvh had far more get up and go..

I've just stupidly shown this to mrs fp, her 1st thought was for me to pop her rst engine in while its off the road for a laugh

Steve my mechanic has a MGF VVC engine and gearbox sat on the floor, I keep toying with the idea of buying a metro but then I think the costs would run away, if you have the skills why not

One of the worst weeks of my life was doing a Youth training Scheme in 1988 straight out of school I was lucky to be accepted by a now defunct Ford main dealer.

The only thing I learnt of any use in later life was that CVH stood for Clattering Valve Heads.

The hardest £28.75 I ever earned was my "wages" for that week, I never went back.

(It was years later that I found out IVECO stood for It Vibrates Everything Comes Off)

I've had some good mileage out of CVH engines, looked after they'd go on and on. Let's be fair the Vaux family 4 went through cams and varijet carbs exactly the same if neglected.

Last CVH I had did 213k so can't all be bad, very simple engine to work on as well.

Normally I wouldn’t give a flying one, and indeed actively buy cars to weigh in. This just seems worth saving though, but if it doesn’t find a home then so be it.

Your best bet to saving it might be to get it welded up and a years ticket on it followed by a Roffle.

It looks honest and straight but someone has got to buy it, get it back to their place and then they are already 'in' to the cars current value.

Then there is the on cost of the work and the MOT and the value of the car doubles and so does the cost.

But with 12 Months test, then £6 a roofless might tempt the required number of people.

I was down 'the yard' yesterday, they didn't have what I wanted, someone else had had the bits.

I did stumble across an MGZR and thought 'whilst I'm here' I will have the aerial lead out of that and fix the radio in ours. So five miunutes later the headligning was down and the aerial lead liberated. As I sat in the car, it struck me it was mint and the MOT sticker in the screen showed end July 2018 'test.

So what put it in there, OMGHGF, Clutch, Gearbox, Cambelt failure ? Any of those are fixable in a days work using secondhand bits (new if it is clutch). The key bit is is if you can DIY and can be arsed.

Anyway, having dropped the mint headlining, I had that as well on the basis that ours was in a bit of a state and since I was dropping it to fit the aerial lead, it would have been rude not to.

I had a bit of time and was full mojo for a bit of messing and fettling, so I did, because I can.

But whoever threw that MGZR away was probably fazed by the cost of the repair. I didn't open the bonnet to look, but other than 'yard rash' from shunting the bodywork was mint, the interior was mint save some seat bolster wear but TADTS.

There are a lot of people who CBA with an MGZR and there are a lot of people who CBA with a poverty spec Fester, they can't all be saved and one day there will be only a handful left.
