This guy was an absolute legend, I saw him messing with the car so pulled the moped over to ask if it was ok to have a look at the car and we had a great chat

Turns out he drives the flatbed truck for a garage, the seat furo pictured by mrs fp as we were chatting was destined for the scrapper at his works because the owner hadn't paid the bill and said keep the car because it needed some more work, it sat in the compound for ages so he bought it to save it

You can see the moped we got around on in this pic we did 200km in 2 days on it, it was pretty much brand new with only 230km on the clock when it got delivered to us, it was a right laugh 2 up whizzing around

I was chatting to him about old motors and mentioned is seen lots but not a sierra, he told me that I would be very lucky to see even one as there aren't any about, but there happens to be one at his work in the compound so guess where I visited

I can't figure out what that red 4x4 is, looks really familiar while at the same time that roof is throwing me off the identification track.

Santana had the Suzuki franchise so perhaps they took inspiration from Solihull's safari roofs and leaky alpine windows to do a hardtop for SJ floppytop owners.

  • 1 month later...

I have not seen this thread until you linked it to me.

From your first posting and with an app I have established the ars are from teh following dates.

ed Fiesta plate is difficult to read but maybe from 1989
Red Suzuki, cannot read.
Dark Suzuki from 1995
White Escort  1994
Grey Panda July 2003
Merc, unknown
Dark Fiat 1992
Hyundai unknown

The Dutch bling monster are very common in that country, for some reason. I think most will be converted to run on LPG. The Dutch do not seem to require lamps to be E Marked, unlike here in Spain. That makes importing new American Vehicles very difficult.
Citroen estate 1997
Dark fiesta 1996
White Golf 1989
Puma cannot read.

One word of warning. Do not take photos of Spanish police cars or policemen. You can be prosecuted for it. Locally it is called Ley Mordaza; officially  it is know as Ley de Seguridad Ciudadana. Fines can be high. Perhaps I refer you to the New York Times dated 2015. Link

The law on public security — dubbed the “ley mordaza” or “gag law” — would define public protest by actual persons in front of Parliament and other government buildings as a “disturbance of public safety” punishable by a fine of 30,000 euros. People who join in spontaneous protests near utilities, transportation hubs, nuclear power plants or similar facilities would risk a jaw-dropping fine of €600,000. The “unauthorized use” of images of law enforcement authorities or police — presumably aimed at photojournalists or ordinary citizens with cameras taking pictures of cops or soldiers — would also draw a €30,000 fine, making it hard to document abuses.

I photograph a lot in France. Some observations.

If a car is obviously a collectors item it is ok but for chod if there is anybody about I usually come and chat first rather than snapping which can be disconcerting for owners. Depends.

The other thing is sometimes to dress so obviously like a tourist people dont think twice - I don my Union-Jack T -shirt then you are kinda protected by being a tourist.

I never photograph the police in France they can be very touchy.

The French also like serious artists so the bigger the camera the more you are let off scrutiny. Furtive snapping works less well.

The abandoned SEAT 600, next to the caravanette, is from 1974

The Sierra is given as being registered n April 2005 so that is an import.

The Blue Mercedes is on an Historical plate. Some advantages to putting a car over 25 years on on this plate. No road tax, roadworthiness test every 4 years. But I think there is a limit to the amount one can travel each year. I really do not see how it is worth while to change paperwork/registration. However if it is an import then the paperwork is easier to obtain.

That law I wrote about only applies to Spain. It is serious.

This link in Spanish of a photo of a police car parked in a Disabled bay cost the photographer 800€. There are other examples. Protests went to the courts of the Council of Europe, but I have never heard of a ruling about this law from the Council of Europe.
