Have you used ferrysavers.com? £400 sounds extreme for the ferry booking......Ohhhhh the penny has just dropped....are you going Bilbao or Santander to Portsmouth?? If that is the case then as it is a two or three day booking it is compulsory to book a cabin....that'll be why then...

When I drive to Spain I go Dover > Calais (cheapest I have managed to get it with DFDS out of season has been £52 return using that ferrysavers website - they constantly spam the heck out of me) and in prime season June time I think it was I paid about £130 return.

I suppose you have already but have you weighed up car and trailer vs. hassle driving back?

I looked at taking my truck across and was quoted something chronic like £350 return from Dover to Calais otherwise I'd be to'ing and fro'ing every week had it been more inline with the cost to get the car across!

I have got a club Voyage membership with Brittany ferries so get a discount. The £400 includes the flight out and a gold class cabin (it's a long trip so I am having a comfy room if nothing else). Being in the south west dover is a right pain in the arse to get to so Portsmouth or Poole are good for me. When I drove the Seat back the costs were around £900 including hotels fuel etc so using the ferry from Bilbao makes sense. I am hoping I can buy it get it back and on the road for under 2 grand which if it is any good should almost turn a profit when I get bored.

It is starting to look like I might actually be able to pull this little purchase off after all. Although none of this would be possible without Ramon's help (for a new member he has really excelled). It is quite a complicated process to buy in Spain but it seems my seller will sell to me as long as he delivers it to the port so it leaves the country straight away. I will probably have to get it picked up when back in the UK as well or take my trade plates with me. Once everything is finalised I will turn this into a collection thread !!!

Thanks for your kind words, it is being a pleasure. This car is a thing of beauty deserving any effort to get her home! The seller told me today that he is really happy selling it to a genuine car lover.

What a great story. When you are starting to lose faith in humanity just popping on here and seeing the lengths strangers will go to help a fellow car lover restores that faith all over again.

I reckon that crossing France with tolls and petrol and Dover to Calais will cost almost as much.

One breakdown or encounter with French police would really put you in the sticky stuff.

The £400 is worth it. Apart from the sea sickness. The bay of Biscay has a way of doing that.

Nice one. I look forward to the write up, on this. I doubt I could do this, without a spare Spanish speaker though..

I'm struggling to see a profit here , Martin.?

Perhaps I'm just out of touch.

I suppose profit is a bit strong maybe that should be not too much of a loss. The classic car market is a strange one and 2k doesn't get much now it seems. I had upto 2k to play with but really couldn't find anything interesting for that money that wasn't a total restoration project.

Any way it looks like this is all on the ferry is booked and a hotel sorted so I just have to keep my fingers crossed that nothing goes wrong. I have found a back up car if it does go wrong but hopefully it won't be needed. Saying that it does look rather appealing and I would probably have both if I could afford to.

Even less chance of a profit but it does look fit.

That would be a good plan but I doubt easy jet would let me take an A frame as hand luggage. The 12 is nice though and it seems the Spanish ones all use the 16 style headlights/

All is set for flying out on Tuesday. If my mobile data is working there might be updates. Last time the bloody phone wouldn't work even though O2 said it would.

Had this shit with Tesco Ireland (MVNO on "3" network which was formerly O2 Ireland). Two phone calls to help*line yielded nothing. Finally got the data working myself.

If the data doesn't work, it'll be the APN settings that are RONG and some bastard phones need a lot of reboots to get changes to hold.

This seems to be a europe-wide thing. Since the EU forced phone companies to offer free roaming it appears that when you actually try data roaming you experience "technical difficulties" for four out of five connection attempts.

A cynical person might think...........
