adw1977
I've only ever seen econolight on a late mk1 special edition, never a mk2 although the Haynes manual does refer to it in the wiring diagrams. I guess it would occupy the same spot as the glowplug lamp on a diesel, and functioned like some sort of ultra basic rev counter.Econolights seem to have been discontinued sometime between Jan 1984 and July 1984, so they were only available for a short time on the Mark 2. Mine was a Ghia so would it have been standard fit or still optional even on the Ghia? Christine

AlabamaShrimp
Not sure if mk4 escort had that but fiesta choke knob on mk2 illuminated orange when pulled out.Oh yes! While it doesn't light up on the Mk1 it's in a much better place on the left so you can mess with it as you try the ignition. Christine
Not been slacking ! This replacement arch was done when i first got the car , but only the flared part with the weld deep in the fillet . In skimming it with filler the arch went all rounded.. nothing like the sharp edge shape , so i did it again . Much better but not perfect . It'll do though. The door got dented when I jacked it up on the other side , and it tilted against a too close machine . Filled that too . I'll not deny there's filler round the headlights too. They all go there.. Christine
Just a tip , you probably know already , placing several thick polythene bags under the tyres like i have ,maketh it easy to slide the car over to work on the other side in a tight space, with a shove . So easy , it can slam into the wall too if you push too hard DSdriver, oldcars, Uncle Jimmy and 2 others
Christine
Not much to report .. I've done a bit more bodywork I think the Festival will see the lower half still in primer.. I've changed all the engine mounts, the lower cradle ones are now Range Rover 1 engine /gearbox mounts . Straight swap , rock solid . We'll see if that was the cause of the torque steer .. I noticed the unleaded petrol hasn't been kind to the flexi fuel pipes. I pulled them all off ,and they just crumbled .. I wonder how many engine fires have been caused by this? Going to order some 8mm braided stuff .

Christine
Local tyre shop, ASF, found me 2 new but elderly ( 09 ) 145 12 tyres on their shelf for cheap, I'm sure they'll be fine...so i had them Was going to buy a battery too , but chatting too much made me forget to pick one up Looking at that pic it looks like the rim is damaged , a second look it seems to be a black sealant , phew ! danthecapriman and egg
Christine
I has done it and still have 3 weeks before the festival for a shake down ! Everything's back together and works, amazingly ...Indicators wouldn't play ball but the Hazards would. The hazard switch was all cruddy inside .. The only thing i lost ,was a self tapper to hold the headlight in.! I think i'm ready for an Mot now , I'll get that done , and if there's any cash left ,I'll buy some yellow paint .... I do fancy some period small rectangular under bumper fog or spot lights though.. I'm beginning to like this little car ! Christine
I found a tin, with cupful of ancient yellow paint in it , somewhat gritty and half set ,a shot of gunwash in it and I whacked it on. I stretched it right down one side front to back , and with the eggcup full left i did the bonnet !! It's bloody rough ,like production paper ,and see through ,but it only took a couple of hours ! At least it's all yellow now ,it'll do.... I ran it up until the fan cut in too. The alternator is rumbling a bit though . Just waiting for some wiper blades from ebay and then mot it. egg, UltraWomble, MarvinsMom and 5 others

Peter C
Mk1 Fiestas were my weapon of choice when I was in my teens. I've had a few. Approx 15 years ago I bought a dilapidated but completely original 1.1L and built this: It looked mean but mechanically remained completely standard. I did buy an MoTd and running Mk1 XR2 with the intention of making the Gulf car a 1.6 x-flow but I ran out of skill and effort and bought a Honda S2000 instead. Good luck with your project. AlabamaShrimp
^^Er why? I mean I've always wanted to know why people do this to cars as it's something I don't get. Like why move the number plate from the boot and make it so it looks like it's hanging off the bumper. I know it's each to their own and all that crap

I have no excuse for my actions. Nowadays I wouldn’t dream of wasting all that time and money on fixing up an old car. Hang on, what about my 200E? Damn.
