A friend of a friend is selling her Daewoo Lanos. It's been well looked after, and looks remarkably bonny! Not a hint of Pog. Located South Birmingham, conveniently near a train station.

They're wrong on the MOT. It actually runs out at the start of November. 1.6-litre engine, sporty three-door body. I suspect offers would be entertained. Contact me in the first instance. 70,000 miles at the last test, and it had only clocked up 1000 miles from the previous one. It hasn't had a hard life.

Collected....

Sometime last week, I received a PM with a mission. Collect a Deawoo Lanos from deepest darkest Birmingham.

This early afternoon (because I'm a bit lazy) I found myself on one of these:

Then here:

To catch one of these:

Luxury...

Sometime around 3pm I landed in Acocks Green and it was less than a couple of minutes walk to the car. On the way I spotted this early Mk3 Fiesta:

Anyway, I eventually found the flat after a walk up and down and a phone call to the seller's husband.

The couple were lovely. The seller didn't really want to sell the car but as they had newer ones... plus they were going to scrap it but not before at least trying to sell it.

I was shown the car which looked pretty forlorn, a couple of flat tyres, tree dust, twigs, bird shit were adorning the paintwork. It hadn't been started for a month but fired straight up. The seller had a small compressor so the tyres could have some air returned.

After a nice chinwag, a cup of tea, some phone calls to Wilson Wilson, money and papers exchanged it was time for me to take this little thing away. I got some pics at the top of the road:

Not sure if the pics speak on how unclean it was. I wasn't expecting to be clean anyway. I mean £150 car....

Anyhow. I set out on the road and the car just felt uneasy to drive. The 'click click' noise sounded more like a knock as I drove on more. However, fearful that the CV joint would give way on the journey up to Newcastle I phoned Wilsonx2 a call. We thought a visit to a friendly mechanic might be on the cards.

I stopped by at a petrol station for a cheap wash;

Now its looking a bit sweeter:

And believe it or not, it's actually driving better! No knocking noises, I'm guessing the brakes were binding or something. So now at some point, it'll be heading up Newcastle way.

Fwar.  It looks pretty man.  Three door shell with a spoiler, so its basically a mk2 Astra GTE.

The power of just plain worry can fix a lot of things so after the phone call from LS I pulled on my worry-pants and worried as hard as I could. What happens if a drive shaft CV lets go while hes driving? What If the front falls off? I dont want to scrap two cars in one week?

It seems to have worked anyway, as it sounds like the driving experience is much improved.

We done and thanks very much Lord Stirling.
