Whats your work ride?

Nowhere near as glamourous as that beastie! An '05 plate Transit Connect. Not a bad old thing really, despite a horrenous appetite for front tyres, and some sort of control valve that makes chicken noises at idle.So far it has written off a mk3 Fiesta (shunted)and a 406 taxi (T-boned).Came off worst against an Iveco tipper lorry though.(None of the above with me at the wheel I might add.)In other jobs I've been at the "wheel" of some spectacular electric cherry picker platforms and an electric reach truck. Neither of which I ever really mastered.

This, Thrilling it aint, frugal it is.

As a district nurse I do between 60 and 140 miles / day and this does everything I want it to do, including the ability to be left unlocked in some of the dodgyer drug addled estates in the 'pool with no fear of it getting robbed (Mind you the threat of a 20 stone bloke stopping your meth script might also have something to do with that).

I'm with Marty on the virtues of aged French diesels. This one replaces a company Saab 9-3 TiD that clocked up 25k in 11 months. A nice car but when I changed jobs I forewent a company car/cash option to get more basic and 40p/mile if I did go anywhere on business.

I thought this job would only entail a round trip of 30 miles to the office each day, but in the last month I've done at least 1,000 business miles. So that's two tanks of diesel (say £100) and the rest in my skyrocket. Result. Mileage should tip over 185,000 before Christmas.

Mines a little more conventional and merges reasonably well with the modern traffic. I can justify its use, mainly as it has a fully functional heater, good lights, noisy and can deal with the occasional 700 mile jaunt down south and back again.

I don't think, despite their worthyness, any of my other shite can tick all of the requirements I demand for my work journey.

Have been using this daily for some weeks now as the Mira needs new tyres (which I can't be bothered buying yet). Has been very entertaining to drive in the icy weather, booting it out of junctions and being a 5mph "drift cock". Starts first time now even if it is covered in thick ice, which surprised me slightly. Very comfortable inside, heater doesn't take long to warm up, rear window defogger is effective, AM radio, etc. However, with my work moving considerably further away from next week I decided to buy a sensible daily.

Then changed my mind and bought an even older Galant. Going to have to drive it throughout the winter (after it gets a bit of rust protection obviously). Misery awaits, can't wait to drive it down icy country lanes, diff whining, Trayal/Runway budget tyres shuddering and temperature gauge not going any further than a quarter along. Lovely.

2.0 TS Mazda 6. Its ok, somewhat thirsty and not the most interesting of transport but it serves a purpose I suppose

I drove one of those that we'd hired at work a week or two ago....I thought it was fantastic! But then, I had just stepped out of....

(in case anyone is in any doubt as to what I drive daily! )

I've always been in jobs without a company car as part of the package. Nearest I've got I suppose was during my bus-driver days in Edinburgh, mainly Leyland Olympians and Dennis Tridents

Some routes required the use of shuttle vehicles to and from driver changeover points, occasionally a spare bus would be used for this but a fleet of fully liveried vans was earmarked for the purpose

All Ford Escorts when I was there (2003-05). I guess the company doesn't dispose of them by tender any more

I've got working lights on me bike (I'm a law-abiding citizen).

Does that mean You stop at red traffic lights? None of 'em round here do!
I usually do - I'm the only one in Amsterdam who stops, because I like sprinting away from the lights. I'm a bit sad.
