These are pretty pish on petrol. The 520, 523 and 528 all seem to do the same mpg.
When I had a 520 as daily it never budged from 30.1 mpg .

I estimate this car needs £3000 maybe £4000 spending on it to get it rite and when this is done it will be wotrth about £1500!!

The 330 I had tank to tank did 32 mpg mixed but the computer said 29 average most of the time, did get it below 20 on many occasions too.

The automatic makes a difference, mpgs will be noticeably lower than on a similar manual car. Cant really complain about my 528i, got around 28.5mpg out of it after a week of thrashing in Wales including the trip there and back (at fairly high speeds). Thats what the car said anyways. And yeah, no significant difference between the 520i-530i in that regard.

Haven't managed to edge the Saab over 25 yet, and the Fuelio app matches the on-board computer pretty well.

Economy run in totally unsuitable cars anyone?

The Lolvo does about 18 I think. Haven't done a proper calculation, that's just based on the readout from the car. I've been to the petrol station five times since taking ownership. But I knew what I was getting into.

My Jag does about 22-ish in mixed driving, which I think is pretty good for a big car. It is in the late teens in town-only though.

62,000 miles worth (plus another 4-5k I need to update),

http://www.fuelly.co...02/tayne/137883

My problem is that i’m either on too short a journey or driving like my hair’s on fire.

It always amuses me that e46s vie with the PT Cruiser as the car that's too shit for Autoshite,

Not if you're my missus it doesn't. She'll only change gear when she hits the limiter and will happily scream along at 40 in 2nd for several miles until she changes up to 3rd. Her 1.6 Megane uses more fuel than my Jag.

I keep saying to her that she should get an auto but when she drives mine she keeps one foot on the brake ALL the time and the other one on the accelerator so I'm not sure if its a good idea either.

But in normal hands I agree your point.

Go do some advance driver training, tell your missus you got a lot out of it and then suggest she does it as well.

The slippy Brown Trout has been in to local tat-friendly independent garage for Transmission service of late.

20180423_134742-01.jpeg

News from under the lift is good. Fluid drained reported as black and filter reported as very old and black. No swarf reported.
Best case scenario thus far really.

Hes not had time to do a propper road test so I'm off to pick in up after work for a shakedown run.

Hopefully new fluid and filter will have cured the cold slipping, as I really like this old turd. Its not fast, its not ecconomical and its not practical and I usually require cars to tick at least one (or two) of these points on the TRIANGLE OF DESIRE but this tub has somehow gotten into my pants by bypassing all conventional sense.

According to an recent internet search, Browntop is a word used to reffer to a broad variety of native grasses.

Not funny, or perticularly interesting Im affraid.

I thoroughly approve.

Excellent that it has proper 'warm' light bulbs as suits a car of this vintage, not some pretend-xenon crap.

Theyre unplugged. The work of a former owner. They change colours automatically and are probably the most terrible thing I have ever seen.
