Everything happens for a reason eh? I was pretty sad to read this earlier, like most we know what it's like to loose something we're attached to. It's a fantastic ending to what's been a rather grey day.

The thief is already being punished by living his dirty little putrid existence, long may it continue in pain and suffering. I wish them the worst, along with those bastard's that nicked my Escort.

Very glad to hear this has been found. I'd have hoped things would have improved up that way over the years, not the case or just bad luck? Someone tried to nick my 30 quid 405 from Tipton years gone by but I'd armed the steering lock so it was still there in the morning. I take it that doesn't help much with the 305 if they know what they are doing?

I'm delighted you found it; but amazed at how police view things there; I live in the countryside but 30 miles from Dublin and the cops are responsive to anybody getting robbed and proactive about CCTV. And most importantly because there's basically no ANPR here are on the ground and know the scrotes

Read this today, delighted at the results :)

Good advice regarding getting that booster pack dropped into them though

I'm so pleased that you have found it and that its only break-in damage that's occured.

Shame about the tools though, probably more expensive to buy than the value of the van but its clear that it meant a million times more to you than that. You must be so relieved, what a sight it must have been to see it just a few streets away.

I would recommend a disklok going forward.

Totally the opposite here. I live out in the countryside not too far from where this van wandered from. My mate had nearly 10k's worth of tools nicked the other week. Police just hand out a crime number and that's that. There's a Parish Hall next door with CCtV and they didn't even check it, nor ask anyone else nearby if they saw anything. Insurance covers it all as far as they are concerned, it's a non crime,  except my mate wasn't covered, total loss :-(

Thanks for the offer of tools guys, although whether they were worth more than the van, Mr Splitpin, is either a compliment on my tool buying ability or an insult about the worth of my chariot. I'll have to think about that.

Having had a fairly profitable time in Accers, thank you Moogs, I might pop down the fraud of half and buy a shiny new set of spankers.

Like others I was disappointed to read about this earlier, glad to hear you've got it back.

Re: police lack of interest, it's just that they've been severely under-resourced for years and so any non-contact crime (theft, fraud, etc) drops way down the priority list. It sucks, but also at the end of the day stuff is only stuff, and as said for most people insurance covers it and that's that. The police take a lot of flak for it but you can imagine the press would crucify them if they didn't turn up to an assault, stabbing etc so anything with physical harm takes priority. Most coppers I've met are just disappointed they don't have enough colleagues or hours in the day to investigate everything they'd like to.

Sorry for going off on a tangent.

Anyway, worth checking local Cash Converters or similar for the tools, they may well get pawned, also see if they come up for sale on local facebook/gumtree.

This sort of nonsense is why no tools beyond the factory Jack and wheelbrace live in my cars now. Some sod will decide to help themselves to them on the odd day that the parcel shelf is out.

Heck, they climbed in through the boot of the 107 to nick a cheap and nasty heads up display! (Battery was stone flat, and there was no way to lock it without a working battery attached). They've also got in through the side door of a rental van (that we didn't realise didn't lock until nearly midnight), nicked a load of bungee cords, and let the handbrake off so I found the van embedded in a hedge in the morning.

If it ain't bolted down someone will have it these days.

Older cars like these are getting more and more targeted for joyrides though simply because modern motors are so difficult to nick for the "casual thief" because of all the modern tech.

It's for this reason that the Lada has had additional security added. Not least that the ECU isn't anywhere near the car during the winter layover, but day to day stuff has been done to ensure you can't just jump in and either smash the ignition barrel or hotwire it and go. It's been nicked once in its life already!

No insult intended, I was thinking your tools might worth in excess of a grand or something and loosely basing that on the recent f/s thread for FOADs example. Probably worth more than my three put together thats for sure!

Anyway, glad you got it back :)

I'm not normally one to stick up for the plod when it comes to car crime but the ratio of scrotes to fuzz in Brierley Hill is probably slightly different to rural Ireland...
