They_all_do_that_sir
Just thought it worth giving this a thread of its own. Looked a great event from last years pictures! 26 Ardtrea Rd26 Ardtrea Rd, Stewartstown, Dungannon BT71 5LY https://goo.gl/maps/jxh9ZZ7UXHD2 I'm planning to go down with the old man earlyish because family commitments. Datsuncog
Okay, also looking like I'll be there solo early on - is there a posted starting time? It looks like the sort of thing oul lads on tractors arrive at around 6.30am...
They_all_do_that_sir
I'll not be there at 6:30 Sent from my F3211 using Tapatalk
Datsuncog
You can guarantee I won't be there at that hour either... just don't want to rock up at 11.30 and find everything being packed away!I was doing the car boot circuit a few years back (LPs and model cars) and, curiously, some events ran from 6-12 despite advertising their hours as 8.30-3pm... turning up at 8 looking a pitch would get you laughed at. So would turning up at 11 to buy. I don't wanna be that guy (again)! They_all_do_that_sir
Datsuncog
Right - it's Monday, it's wet, the wind is blowing a gale around SE Antrim direction... but I'm up now, so gonna fuel up the Green Gooner and go for it... Google maps sez an hour should see me at Stewartstown so... see some of you later, mebbe? Squire_Dawson

Datsuncog
Arriveded. Bit pissy-downy but, as advised, there seems to be some undercover areas and I'm far from the first to rock up.I'm going in! They_all_do_that_sir

They_all_do_that_sir
I bailed out of this because two small boys and weather. Quietly gutted. Wifey did say "well there's always next year and you should have a bit of cash by then" which I think means green light for a third car??? Faker
I went. Bitter cold... but great day none the less. Sort of event now that I can go to and catch up with some old friends I don't get to see much of now.. more of a social event for me... which datsuncog can verify (as I constantly vanished on him)! Datsuncog
Well, I'd anticipated heading home to warm up and upload some lovely pictures of choice chod in a state of photogenic dereliction, but I'm afraid you'll have to make do with just the one wreck for now... Datsuncog
Not sure! It didn't actually seize, but it's not sounding happy! Pretty much total oil loss from somewhere - can't even see where. Clearly TAZ was so impressed with Junkyard Jewels that it fancies becoming a permanent resident... Currently awaiting recovery. RAC are not, apparently, in any great rush to get me off the hard shoulder.
Faker
Today's epic spot. C - reg maestro van - camper - wheel chair vehicle, with a montego front. Was in very good shape too... A montegaestro! Going to edit the post, as I'm reliable informed that it's a camper van. Excellent stuff! warninglight
I realise the photos at the top are a year old, but I recognise a few of those cars from when I was last there, 6 or 7 years ago now. I've had a few parts off John over the years to keep my 1100 on the road. He's approachable and has a LOT of stuff!
Datsuncog
Broken or just pissed itself?Broken. Very broken. If it ever stops raining/sleeting I'll go out and investigate just how broken... but sudden total oil loss at motorway speed probably ain't a good sign... I pulled over as it was making AN NOIZE, and then... well.
Datsuncog
Okay, so leaving my personal dramas with the green Laguna to one side, Junkyard Jewels 2018 was utterly ace. Despite a bracing amount of good Ulster rain/sleet falling, my enthusiasm was dimmed not one jot and I came away with 542 photos... er, yeah. Maybe got a touch carried away, I'll admit. It's an odd set-up, granted, but it was heartening to see so many weirdos dedicated enthusiasts keen to pay £3 for the privilege of standing in a wet field beside a load of derelict Hillmans on Easter Monday. That, in itself, ought to be celebrated. My intention is to group the photos together by manufacturer/model, as in my shite-induced delerium I failed to get any sort of coherent system going and basically wandered around in a trance snapping away at random while trying not to hyperventilate. I'm sure I have many duplicate and rubbishy shots to delete. Not least because this is a semi-working yard - so if there's some unobtainium part that you happen to spy in any of the photos, I can provide you with contact details... Until I get the car pics sorted properly and posted up here, I thought I'd start with a general flavour of the yard... ah, the tang of ferrous oxide, the whiff of rotting leather, the hilarity of slicing your leg open on a lethally sharp bumper... brings back memories, that does. Many, many more pics to come. Eventually. Squire_Dawson, Faker, Cardinal Wolseley and 10 others

Datsuncog
Indeed - Orion was a very desirable top-of-the-tree model. Some bits needing a spot of attention, but still quite a head-turner! They_all_do_that_sir
Price wise were they ambitious or reasonable? Sent from my F3211 using Tapatalk
Datsuncog
^^ No prices stated, and I didn't see anyone on hand to ask - I imagine inquiries were to be directed to the yard's main office, but I was too busy bouncing around the place with my cameraphone, like a Labrador hopped up on cocaine-sprinkled Bonio, to do anything remotely sensible such as make enquiries... Faker reliably informs me that many of the complete cars for sale this year were also for sale last year - though a few have deteriorated somewhat since then. As the prices in this part of the world for retro Blue Oval products seem even less sane than elsewhere, I'd imagine this wee Onion might be a smidge optimistic in its pricing - if there were bargains to be had, I daresay some lad from Ahoghill would surely have pulled out his chequebook and had it away to stash in his haybarn. Datsuncog
This was my stand-out from the sales yard... local registration, 40k on the clock, cosmetically awful but the only serious rot I could see was the o/s rear wheelarch... Cannot be many of these left. What a colour, too! Quite possibly the Junkman "Do Not Paint" dictum applies here.
