escortmad79
Seeing as the topic was locked, I'll post up the good news that the car & trailer were found hidden away http://www.rossgazette.com/article.cfm?id=112195&headline=Classic Angrydicky, chaseracer, Sudsprint and 13 others
MarvinsMom
now that is good news! i hope that the car and its trailer have not suffered any damage while on its adventures, but at lest its back with its owner. now while not wanting to go back to reason why the original thread got locked, ie it been a daft thing to do leaving them in a layby, i'm pleased that they have been found. when marvin the metro got pinched from outside our house a few years ago, i was lucky to get it back. ok, so the door was bent, one window was broken and the steering lock was ragged out. i put the car in the garage for about 6 weeks cos i couldn't bring myself to look at it. but at least i had gotten the car back home. I, however, am unreservedly pleased that it has turned up. Result. binhoker668, MarvinsMom, Sudsprint and 1 other
AnthonyG
Let’s just say good stuff. Lucky, but a happy ending. A VW Golf was the original tow car, which perhaps explains why they didn’t feel safe towing in the snow. John F and Slartibartfast

somewhatfoolish
Surprised at that; I was expecting the car to be abandoned and the trailer to vanish into thin air.

Dan_ZTT
Surprised at that; I was expecting the car to be abandoned and the trailer to vanish into thin air.Same here, nice to see it's been recovered. Opportunist theft I guess, then dumped once reality set in that they couldn't move on what they'd nicked.
Uncle Jimmy
Good news that; I'm sure the owner will be very grateful to have them both back, barring any noteworthy damage I'd call that a result
dieselnutjob
According to wikipedia the curb weight of a 29 Ford is 1027kg. The lightest braked trailer I ever found was 500kg and most of them are more like 800kg.Google tells me that the towing limit for a 2010 on Golf is 1600kg.They might have been within the limit but it seems borderline at best. bub2006
1600kg is quite a high towing rate for a golf isn't it? My Octavia is a bit heavier and only 1500kg rated. Any way up it seems a winner for the owner to get them back after all. social media can help in making something too hot to handle.
artdjones
Just surprised that they didn't get rid of the car and keep the trailer, which would be much more anonymous than a Model A Ford.
artdjones
The Golf in question seems to be a MK4 estate, towing weight 1400kg.
GrumpiusMaximus
The Golf in question seems to be a MK4 estate, towing weight 1400kg.Depends on the engine but that’s about right for a TDI. It wasn’t my MKIV estate...! Not guilty! Glad they’ve got it back.
dieselnutjob
I am a massive hypocrite. I have had someone digging a trench next to my garage so that I can extend it.It isn't possible to get a skip lorry into the access road behind my garage so I put some sides on my 8'x4' Taiwanese import trailer and the guy put the earth into it.Today we went to the council tip and because it's a trailer I have to pay and so they weigh you in and way you out and you pay for the difference. It may have been more than 750kg, or maybe I misread the receipt. I may have in the recent past also moved a pair of 5.6 metre long RSJs with said trailer, or it maybe I don't know how to use a tape measure properly. There is also the small matter of the trailer that I lost with a 504 diesel on the back of it back in the 90s. It was very lucky that I didn't make it to the dual carriage way that I was headed for but not so lucky for the guy coming the other way whos Sierra I wrote off. Allegedly.....
