Ex-Junkman, Ex-Meshking P38 back up for grabs

Due to the unexpected bill for £660 to replace the tyres on my wife's car, I have come to the disappointing realisation that I cannot afford to run this beast, therefore it is up for grabs. Hopefully with Meshking's permission, it can be collected from his abode in Surrey.

To be a bit different, I thought that we could hold a blind auction instead of a roffle. It works like this if you have an interest in this, then PM me with your offer. The cut-off time for last bids will be 8pm on Saturday the 24th. You can submit as many bids as you want and the highest bid after the cut-off time will be deemed to be the winner.

To try and get the Hendry fund over the grand mark, I will also be donation 25% of the winning bid to said fund.

Orignal roffle thread with car details is here - http://autoshite.com/topic/31263-ex-junkman-range-rover-p38-drawn-thanks-for-playing/

Cheers

Fraser

yyyyyeah.....about that.

This guy immediately turning it round for profit without even collecting it doesnt sit well with me.

Also, pitting autoshiters against each other in a blind auction strikes me as very much against the community spirit.

A few years back I won the 405 estate roffle and couldnt collect. I openly auctioned it on the site and after my ticket price was covered, the rest was donated to the forum.

Sorry if you feel that way Dave. If the only offer is 99p, then that is what it will go for. If I did not have to pay £660 for tyres for my wife's car (all damaged by potholes) then I would be picking this up on Sunday, But the cheapest quote that I got for insurance was £280, and add tax on, then I am looking at investing over £500 on a car that I really have no use for.

The whole problem with a blind auction is if I offer 99p and Skizzer offers 700 quid. He rightly wins it but....... Good for your wallet but not fair for Skizzer.  Blatant profiteering from other members isnt what Autoshite is about.

I want the car, but there is no fucking way I am entering a blind auction.

The way I see it there are three fair options that fit the forum ethos. (Others may disagree)

1 - re-roffle it. If the tickets are cheap, perhaps limit the number of tickets per person in the interests of fairness.

2 - Auction it. Open bids on this thread. Highest bidder at closing time according to the forum clock wins.

3 - maybe controversial, but declare the roffle void, sell your tickets to someone else and the list from the old thread stands for a new draw.

Agree with the above; entering a roffle is a commitment to pick up the risks and rewards associated with winning.

Even when i buy tickets for others, i'm more than prepared to pick up the win if the recipient didn't actually want ot.

If you can't take it, you can't, that's fair. So sell your ticket on and redraw.

I think we need to be a bit careful to get the rules straight though, otherwise we'll get people flipping roffle won cars left right and centre. Yes, unexpected bills suck, I see the situation here and 100% can see it applying to me, so that's not an issue, but we need to decide what happens as a group, so if/when it happens again, we know the drill. I hesitate to use a breadvan-ism but the precedant will be set by this, it's the first time it's happened IIRC in these circumstances, where the car hasnt been collected yet?

If you try and do this, you earn money when in reality, you didn't really have the right to?

He's got every right to do whatever he likes with a car he won fair and square

Fair enough, but there's nothing to stop him.

Yeah, that's a fair point "I've got another bidder on the phone" sort of thing.

But anyway, it's all by the way as far as I can see. Don't have any real problem with what is proposed tbh.

His car, he won it having gambled £12 so he can do whatever he likes with it. Blatant profiteering? Not in my book, he/she is finding out what their win is worth by asking what people are willing to pay. Anything over £12 will be a profit. I'm not interested, so I'm not going to take part.

Same thing I keep saying, if it's not for you/to your tastes, probably easier just to move on without posting on the thread.

Oh mate, you've left yourself wide open here.

I got flamed a couple of days ago for admitting I wrote a letter to my GP. It's the way this forum is now.

If you want a bit of advice from an old geezer, I'd let this thread die, or better still, ask a mod to delete it completely.

Then collect the car and sell it privately. It's your car, your rules, but I'd keep it well away from here.

Good luck with whatever decision you make.

The only really unfair option in the list is number 3 - I see no reason why he should give it away, having won it fair and square.  It is his car to do with as he pleases, and if that means immediately selling\re-roffling it then great - gives me another shot at winning.

We don't really need to lay down rules on this - the 'market' will decide if there is any 'blatant profiteering' going on or not and boycott accordingly.

37 please

More than happy to sling shit at this thread though? http://autoshite.com/topic/31386-knobvan/?do=findComment&comment=1459634

Not shit slinging, just having a laugh, but met a humorless response. I removed the comment when an objection was raised - but I still don't think anyone would see that as anything more than a bit of fun and a mild ribbing.

Can you imagine the sort of humanity* that would get in contact over a sub £1k Range Rover with 6 month's ticket on Gumtree? Put it on carandclassic for £1500, my guess is you'll get at least £1200 before the day is out!

Ok, this has now been sold privately to a forum member. Once paid, i will add another donation to the Hendry fund which will take it over £1000. And it was sold for a lot less than I could have got for it on Ebay of Gumtree.

Less than gumtree, you must be getting a non eaten twix then. Result.
