Today I've braced the drivers door shut, cut off the bottom of the sill and lip with part of the floor, cut the bottom off the wing so I can repair the a pillar, cut out bits of rust that ive got to repair first before I can do the inner sill,

Anyone want some genuine RS rust got to be worth thousands how the prices are going

My mate and I had a silly game where we would hoon about after dark, pull up at the end of a good thrash, pop the bonnet and giggle at the glowing turbo like Beavis and Butthead.

I swear he got his RS Turbo so hot you could see the spindle through the metal.

I could never get the proper white heat in mine. Just a red glow.

Fast forward 10 years, his is a polished show queen, I'm waiting for mine to turn up on one of those rotting on a driveway Facebook pages.

I love that game, my pal had and still has a rs500 replica with big spec 8 injector yb running a t4 and he got challenged to a race by a chap in an escort cosworth, my pal came back with a big smile on his face popped his bonnet and the turbo had that lovely yellow white glow we giggled like kids at it,

I can assure you even when this is finished looking pristine its not going too be a polished show queen

Have you still got your rs turbo?

That's proper British rust on that shovel. Get that ground down and you can make jewellers rouge...............for polishing your windscreen. Down at a place scrounging some gel coat today, and the young kid there is doing up an XR3. Looking closely over it after not seeing one for a bit............they are tiny. Just that even small cars are big now I suppose.

Tbh I don't normally post pics of it as I'm paranoid about it being hiab'd!

This is from an AS thread in 2010

I understand that one too well mate you can't be too careful now the prices have got up there and undesirables think it's fair game to take someones pride and joy, it looks a lovely motor that does, get it back on road and enjoy it

I had a Sapphire Cosworth in 2010 but sold it after buying our house, early Crystal Blue one. Its been thru a couple of plate changes since, I think its now E212PHG but doesn't seem to be any photos online.

A bit more progress has been made on this today before the heavens opened up, I removed the remains of the inner sill, repaired an area that the replacement mounts to and fitted the replacement inner sill into place

I will plug weld the ends into position when I fit the outer sill so I know it's in the correct position

Back in the very early eighties I had a 1969 Mk1 scrote van as a work wagon

Green, with surface rust all over it, but no rot. A mate who had a Vw bay with the middle third cut out

asked me if I was interested in a Mk2 RS.

Sure, says I. I'll go rob a bank.

Nah, says he, this one is in your price range.

Turns out some local youngster had got one, by fair means or foul, and had severely rolled it.

Side over side into a small field where it ended up roof first into a rather large tree.

Both B pillars bent, not a straight panel and only one piece of glass left.

Total write off. Today it may have been salvageable but back then it wasn't.

Parted with £350, in today's dosh fuck knows, and carted it off.

Over a long week me and a mate, who had a garage and a lift, stripped it of everything mechanical and stuck it on my scabby work van. Had to adapt some bits but very few.

For those days it went like fuck and would see off nearly everything from the lights. Much fun was had.

Had it about three years then sold for a profit and bought a Vauxhall Ventora  that I put the, then, obligatory

Rover V8 and Jaaaag rear end on. Arse end up look, which was very in. That went like fuck an all.

Proper job Mr FP. Good luck and looking forward to seeing it sometime.

I spent friday removing the old front floorpan section, gently unpicking it from the chassis leg and checking the hidden areas for corrosion, I have been chuffed with the front chassis legs as it appears someone had the foresight to have them protected in the past, today's job has been to trim the replacement floorpan panel to shape and to finalise the shape of the hole to put it in then weld it up

Getting rid of the horrid white dials while you're at it?

The temptation is there but the only problem is then the highly coveted white face ford racing gauges will look out of place, I don't get why people pay so much for them to be fair, I gave them to mrs fp because she liked them.

Well folks radio silence doesn't mean no progress, I have been fighting with the weather recently, what I have got done in between shit weather is make a front strengthener that goes along the front inner arch and continues under the floor and weld it in, today I have cut out the inner quarter in front of the back wheel, the rear of the sill and the part that goes under the back seat in front of the rear arch and made up the sections then welded them in

This is what I was faced with before cutting it all out

I didn't take any pictures after though im terrible with phones outside

Well folks the weather has been quite shit so the other day was time to get a cover on the old girl so my work isn't for nothing, im glad i did as the past 3 days have been omgrainchaos

post-4828-0-49071700-1537531341_thumb.jpg

I'll be uncovering it as and when I work on it from now

On another note a chap who owned the old girl in the mid 90s and still in love with the car has been in touch he classes it as the one that got away, he blocked our road with his truck a few years back when he saw me working so he could have a chat, I also happen work with his ex mrs who also has fond memories of the car, he is trying to sort some pictures from back in the day as soon as I have them ill post them up

Well today has been dry so got a bit more done, drivers door off prepared the replacement sill and the car to take the sill, welded it on then ran out of gas so couldn't plug weld to the inner sill.

post-4828-0-60956100-1537892621_thumb.jpg

Put the door back on and checked the gap between the door and sill which is nice and even

Primed it up and put the cover back on will have to get some gas

Yep for some reason the prices for them have been hit with the omgoldfordrstax, even projects with lots of rot are going for what i class as daft money for a rotten mk4 escort, they certainly do like to hide rot

I definately wouldn't buy one at today's money

Blooming heck the weather has been dry and bright on a day off so I have finished the floor sections, the front is now fully welded to the car, I had to cut and make a filler piece for 1 section as I wasn't happy with the fitment where it met the inner sill, they are pattern floors so im not at all surprised, I have also made and welded in filler pieces for the little bits you don't get with them, seeming as its all solid now I have removed the box section i used as door gap bracing which feels a little milestone im leaving the side to side bracing for now as they give a great earth point for my welder, the only thing I have to finish inside the car is the seat crossmember repair

Never saw it move for years, always just sat outside the owner's house, then one night I was coming back over Langsett towards Woodhead Pass (before it was speed camera hell) and it just blitzes past out of nowhere, and was gone again before I knew it. The memory always stuck with me.

Beautiful car and go to match.

MOT history suggests it lives on somewhere on SORN.

Hi I own this car now have had it about 4-5 years
