Not sure they all have pad sensors?

Re bottom ball joint, you have to change the complete bottom arm, make sure the rubber block is changed as well.

There are 2 difficult bolts, strange spanner size but can't remember what. Also need ball joint splitter.

Quite awkward to remove them and I have a pit. Took me 2 or 3 hours and I didn't enjoy it.

Thought that. Not a job I shall be doing myself. Thankfully bottom arms are cheap enough.

What brand would folks recommend? The most common is 'D2P' but I have never heard of them before.

Just contacted the Rover specialist, he said £100 to fit everything so thats just over a couple of hundered including parts, not worth me sweating over such a job for a relatively small outlay to get someone else to do it.

MOT isnt until Sept so can leave it as is until just before then.

MoT it first before you spend money on the bottom arm.

The possibilities for fail are endless.

Mine goes for MoT quite soon. I'm confident*.

Play is deffo in the 'excessive movement' banding I'd say. Imma get the guy to give it a pre mot inspection anyway although I cant see it needing much else tbh.

I took this out for a test drive tonight and my previous efforts have made bugger all difference.

The wheel is still roasting hot after a few miles so its obviously still sticking on.

I am at the stage where I'm not pissed off with it anymore, I just can't be arsed with not being able to drive it half the time.

Think imma just get something else thats a bit more reliable!

Are both front wheels hot?

Leave it a while, then jack up the offending wheel.

Will it spin freely?

If yes, press the brake hard with the engine running, release the pedal and try spinning the wheel.

Wheels do get hot. As long as the brakes don't bind or pull it may be normal.

Could well be the caliper sticking, can also be a restriction in the brake hose, but this seldom happens.

Like I said very rarely can you unstick a failing caliper with a strip down unless you are popping the piston out and overhauling it. You could try doing this but you might find getting the piston itself out difficult without an air line. An exchange caliper shouldn't be mega money.

The other wheel is barely warm at all, as I would expect. Life is too short to be bitten on the arse by a car every other week, unless its something special like a DS!

Drove to the station this morning and the osf wheel was barely warm. It was 16 degrees out and the caliper only appears to bind when the ambient temperature is above about 20 degrees.

I'd say it's not worth worrying about for the usual two days a year then!

Same happened with mine.

I'm the same, always spending money fixing it and not getting much use out of it.

Nice to meet you Tam, hope you enjoy it and it serves you well over the next couple of months.

For all its faults, I bloody loved this car and I shall have another soon.

But for now, my automotive feet are itchy and there a few cars that I want to test drive :)

That's a wrap.

Likewise on the meeting and even with it's little grumbles a 75 just relaxes you up the road.
Not really taking my time but economy was also good.
