SierraMikeHotel
My experience with the BX (not my fault) was this: Decided the car was not fixable (as you say, the shell was well and truly bent). Got offered a derisory sum of money. Wrote many angry letters of complaint until they finally gave me a sensible sum. Be prepared for a fight, and start collecting adverts for similar cars now so that you can demonstrate its true worth. I was given a hire car, but they took it back when they made the initial payout (which was, I think, about £25) because in their eyes the matter was settled. I think my first letter said something like, "If you can find me a car on AutoTrader that has 60,000 miles, a long MoT, no mechanical or electrical problems and no rust for £25 I will accept the matter as being settled." Meanwhile, they never collected the car and the person who owned the land it was left on was (understandably) starting to get very impatient to get rid of it so Talbot took it away, stripped it for parts, and distributed them around the BX community. I wasn't bothered about money for parts, but I see no issue with you asking money for decent bits if you want to. I guess it technically belonged to the insurance company but nobody's ever come after me for it - and it was on private land, so I guess the landowner was within his rights in getting rid of it. My renewal the following year was considerably higher, and I couldn't get cheaper quotes elsewhere so it had obviously gone through the whole system. I rang my existing insurer to query it and they said, "You haven't lost your no-claims discount but the premium's gone up because you've made a claim." Eh? I was with Equity Red Star via a broker and I've since heard that they're widely regarded in the industry as being terrible. I sincerely hope it goes more smoothly for you, and I'm glad nobody was in the car. Best of luck.
Cheggers
Let it go, it's not a rare car (yet). Put your effort into making sure you get a suitable settlement then find yourself a worthy replacement. Sent from my SM-G955F using Tapatalk
sierraman
Its scrap. I'd take the spare out and the wireless, then let them take it away. If its worth less than £600 or so I'd think twice about claiming. Your premium will go up for at least next 3-4 years, once you've knocked your excess off you'd lose out. Des
If you're stuck without a car I'm sure you'll have no problem with claiming the cost of hiring one until the insurers pull their finger out.I had a parked car hit, it was still drivable afterward and within a few days Aviva got in touch, took it away for a couple of weeks leaving me a shiny new hire car, phoned to say BER, paid out, dropped my car back, didn't mark as a write off, and I confirmed with all my insurers it wouldn't affect my future premiums. So it would appear that the buggers are capable of dealing with a claim without being dickish about it.Although the hire car was a Vauxhall and quite unsuited for the purpose of driving so sat parked up, but it's the thought that counts. Now brace yourself for a year of personal injury scammer scum pestering you. Worse than the BX in every way apart from build quality. Bit embarrassing for a car 20 years younger.
