spartacus
If there's power to the injector but it drops out under electrical load then it almost seems likely to be an ECU fault. I hope I'm wrong and it's something simple though. Jim Bell
fatharris
That's the thing - there's still power when it's misfiring. I can't get actual voltages due to the rapid on/off nature of the circuit, but my light up screwdriver probe thingy is indicating power throughout. Pillock
Have you scanned for codes? Not all faults throw an EML up and on a 57 plate it should have sensors all over the shop. Not sure if any of the apps that connect to Bluetooth dongles go into more detail about fuel injectors and whatnot? Jim Bell
Steve79
From what's being discussed on the US forums for Kia and Hyundai, the delta and theta v6 suffer a lot from coil pack issues. Interestingly I came across the following youtube video about a santa fe suffering similar issues and turning out to the the crank sensor wiring. Worth considering! This was just me jumping the gun a bit. From what's being discussed on the US forums for Kia and Hyundai, the delta and theta v6 suffer a lot from coil pack issues. Interestingly I came across the following youtube video about a santa fe suffering similar issues and turning out to the the crank sensor wiring. Worth considering! https://youtu.be/prhEdlHweFEThat's smashing, didn't think about checking YT, the front bank coil packs were all swapped around between each other and confirmed to be working (at £130 each, I'm bloody glad!) So I'll look at the video again and do some more digging! Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
Steve79
Might be worth looking at www.rockauto.co.uk for coil packs, especially if they are £130 each! Price includes shipping to UK. 1st pic is for a 2008 model with the later theta engine with the vvt, 2nd pic is if you have the earlier delta engine. Optima is the USA name for the Magentis if you weren't aware ☺ scdan4
xtriple
How come when I had this bugger and asked the same questions, everyone deafened me with total silence yet 'Mr Popularity' gets all the help and assistance? fatharris
Apparently the weather is going to improve next week. If that truly is the case then the cleaning posts will come thick and fast. Probably. I've also managed to wangle borrowing my mates code reader are the end of the week so I can look further into the running issues. Hopefully, we can get somewhere with this soon, as the Rover runs out of MOT next month and I'd quite like to get this out and about for a while. rainagain
Have you done a compression test on the affected cylinder and compared it with a working one? Just to rule out mechanical problems. Is the timing correct?

Is the timing correct?I haven't, but I didn't feel it was necessary because it was both temporary and intermittent. No idea if the timing is correct, or indeed how to check on modern cars. In my defence, I did set the timing on this earlier this week! mat_the_cat
There may well be an ignition live to the injectors, but a switched return to earth. Can you switch the plugs between injectors to see if the problem follows the wiring? Or buy a noid light. fatharris
fatharris
You may be onto something there, as the return - earth point measured over 600ohms in the two plugs I tested. Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
fatharris
Also, thanks for the Noid lights hint - I knew there must have been a tool for this, as a multimeter doesn't refresh as fast as the on/off cycle of the injector, but I didn't know a name for it! cobblers
Modern stuff usually switches both high and low side of the injectors, in case one of the transistors fails short circuit. One of the sides is usually common to a half the injectors. mat_the_cat
fatharris
Well, this happened a month ago, but I finally moved the Kia out to scrub off the copious amounts of bird shit. 160418-93 by Fat Harris, on Flickr As you can see, it was pretty encrusted. 160418-94 by Fat Harris, on Flickr A quick scrub later... 160418-95 by Fat Harris, on Flickr 160418-97 by Fat Harris, on Flickr 160418-98 by Fat Harris, on Flickr 160418-99 by Fat Harris, on Flickr This was a month ago. fatharris
So. I felt guilty about leaving the Kia alone for so long, so I did some work to it. Trevithick Day2018-1 by Fat Harris, on Flickr It needed moving over a bit so I could open all the doors. Kia170518-2 by Fat Harris, on Flickr Cor, look at the state of that. Can't be having that, can we? Kia170518-3 by Fat Harris, on Flickr Let's get this out for a proper clean. Kia170518-4 by Fat Harris, on Flickr First up, the rear seat squab. Two clips on the front, and two 12mm bolts on the back. Kia170518-5 by Fat Harris, on Flickr Pretty clear-cut where the dirt begins and stops Kia170518-6 by Fat Harris, on Flickr SO. MUCH. HAIR. Kia170518-7 by Fat Harris, on Flickr Rear seat squab out, now to get the rest of the rear seat out. Kia170518-16 by Fat Harris, on Flickr As a billy bonus, underneath the parcel shelf was a bit of trim that was missing. Happy days! Kia170518-14 by Fat Harris, on Flickr The cat came out to the car to find out why I was taking so long. Kia170518-15 by Fat Harris, on Flickr Next up, all four kickplates to come off. Kia170518-17 by Fat Harris, on Flickr Kia170518-22 by Fat Harris, on Flickr Kia170518-23 by Fat Harris, on Flickr The seatbelt pillar lower trim, was next to come off. Forgot to take an after shot. Kia170518-24 by Fat Harris, on Flickr Next, the front seats. The passenger side nuts were quite corroded. Kia170518-25 by Fat Harris, on Flickr Even the feet of the seat were corroded. Not good on an 11 year old car. Kia170518-26 by Fat Harris, on Flickr Lots of space inside now. Kia170518-27 by Fat Harris, on Flickr SevenPoundCar is now SixPoundCar. Aside from this and a couple of golf tees, there were no fun freebies anywhere. Kia170518-28 by Fat Harris, on Flickr Centre console out next. Gear knob was thankfully an unscrewing jobby rather than a pull and pray type. Kia170518-29 by Fat Harris, on Flickr The ashtray is probably a source of the strong tobacco smell. Kia170518-32 by Fat Harris, on Flickr Which left us with this Kia170518-33 by Fat Harris, on Flickr And, quite a surprise. Every available opening and aperture had some form f corrosion.
