Steve79
If you don't want to chuck a chunk of money at the car right at this moment then you could always try steel seal. I know it's not the "accepted" way of doing things and it might be sneered at by some but it's worked on my Rover 800 which was exhibiting the same symptoms and it hasn't lost a drop of coolant or contaminated the oil since. alcyonecorporation
Bugger bugger. Sad to see this news man. I concur. This is shit. To answer some of Ken's earlier questions: Yes, I had a service done at a specialist in Lincolnshire about three months after I bought it. I did have a kettle moment with the car on the A1 but was able to coast into a service station. It got taken to Trophy Cars where they replaced a heater pipe which the workshop said had fractured (hence the kettle movement). After that I kept an eye on the coolant and it didn't move or lose any. The temp sender freaked out a bit and it was on my list of jobs to replace- instead, I sold the car because I needed the money. loserone

Guest Hooli
If the temp behaves I'd be looking more at the inlet manifold as I've often read their gasket can produce OMGHGF! symptoms without most of the hassle fixing it. purplebargeken

Do Rover 75 1.8's suffer from that? SiC

Daviedv
After its been running a bit, if you take the coolant cap off is there coolant in the threads? if so it could just need a new cap. The small amount of mayo is probably due to the time of year/usage and the coolant level dropping could be due to it ''escaping'' out of the duff cap when hot. i had the exact same symptoms with my tf, and a new genuine cap from rimmers fixed it. (confirmed after as i did the headgasket etc anyway and it was good) The Reverend Bluejeans
purplebargeken
I normally treat the coolant cap as a service item anyway but I'm not sure if it's been done in a while. I have a new one in the drawer actually. I'll lob it on as a matter of course Still got the TF?
Daviedv
yep, still have it. only car i have that is actually working properly at the moment (touch wood) lol purplebargeken
purplebargeken
Further conversations had re: mayo and fluid loss. The mayo may actually be just confined to the dipstick tube as some distance away from the actual engine block and is next to the remote filler. This may cause more cooling and condensation within the tube itself, hence mayo. Coolant loss may also be linked to having the heater bit replaced and further bleeding may be needed as bleeding on these can take ages anyway and there are 3 bleed points in the system. This is interesting as there is now no mayo on the dipstick at all and the oil is spot on with regards to being new and oily looking. K series cars do nothing for my stress levels lol. However, all is not lost as I may have a slight exhaust blow
