I've had to have a bit of a sit down & give myself a bit of a talking to over this.

I must not get carried away and will only enter future raffles for stuff I can actually afford to run.

Oh behave ... its not like you need to win them or anything .. .entering is the fun bit :-)

No you won't.

And I know it.

But when it comes to buying P38s, I evidently have demonstrated that I know what I'm fucking doing.

This should be taken seriously.

I can select a ca. 1 bag 4.6 HSE that's worth buying any day of the week.

Trust me, I know what I'm doing here.

The reverse logic of this is that I can also tell you which examples to piss on.

- Do not buy one that has custom wheels on it - the transfer case will be fucked.

- Do not buy one that has been used for towing - the gearbox will be fucked, because the English were too tight to order the trailer tow package,

which comprises (among a shitload of other) a transmission oil cooler.

- Do not buy one, that has a leaking heater matrix.

Apart from that, it's up to you which electric servants you deem necessary.

You will not find one where everything works, at least not for this tariff.

And for God's sake, do not listen to those liner slipping clowns.

They are so full of shit, that I want them to be executed in public.

I know my Rover V8s and they don't. I also know how to drive a fucking motorcar.

With all due respect, I suggest we'll leave it there.

And do me a personal favour - kill everyone who ripped out the bellows and installed coil springs.

Just on a general principle, whoever did that lost his right to live.

The only reason I sold it was the insurance premium at a time I was shafted by a recruitment agency.

I was fired.

I tried to be self employed.

I got this contract in Leicester, which meant to cross the Peak District at least twice a week in Winter.

I'm an old enough geezer to not put what little shitty little life I have left on the stake for some arsefucked corporation.

Hence I bought that RR.

Insurance bumraped me.

Contract was a piss take.

Thus sold RR in the famous* roffle.

If it wouldn't have been for the above, I'd still happily hoon around with it at 19.1 OMGMPH (the average speed you can achieve

in the Ununited Kingdom over six weeks of driving, a fucking insult to any taxpayer) and 16 OMGMPG (which is a credible average

considering the woefully inadequate infrastructure a taxpayer has to put up with in the Ununited Kingdom).

If it weren't for that, none of you dreary lot would have been able to buy a roffle ticket for it.

Harsh, but fact.

There are good ones out there.

I've been extremely lucky-had mine over 11 years-tyresx2, exhaustx2, new air bags-replaced because of age-7 years ago- and a compressor last year-getting lazy- and £200 last year to unlock the BeCM-so not too bad! Got problems now though with the sunroof not opening. Air con clapped out years ago-bonnet insulation wore through the pipe across the top of the engine. Steve

Thank you for those kind words. I am so glad that your experience of driving a Rover V8 for 6 weeks makes you so much more knowledgeable than my mere 30+ years experience, my having owned in excess of 40 Rover V8s or my current ownership of 4 Rover V8s and 2 Chevrolet V8s. The fact that during that time 3 dropped liners (out of 5 over 4 litre versions owned) still means I am full of shit and should be executed in public. Also, anyone who says "with all due respect" invariably shows none.

So, with all due respect, I suggest we leave it there whilst you go back to playing with your toys in the sandpit.

You are indeed correct, as I do not know you I could only go on your post in this thread, and the only reason I responded was you called me a shit and wished me executed which says legions in my view. But go on then, humour me. How many of what sizes have you had, how many miles did you do in them, and what sort of use? Shopping, towing, off road use, competitions etc. Also, to see who knows more about them, how many years have you worked as an engineer with a major motor manufacturer have you done, how many years have you worked in the specialist motor trade have you worked, and how many Rover V8s have you personally stripped, reconditioned and rebuilt. I am happy to back up my statements with more substantial facts than "I know how to drive a fucking motor car"

Over to you........

Perhaps not, but maybe he could tone down the intensely smug / self-satisfied thing? I know loads of Austrians, and that's not a specific national trait of theirs.

I'm sure 'us dreary lot' would appreciate it.

Bill Bryson, in his book Notes From A Small Island, recounted a trip he made in his younger days with a couple of German lads through part of Austria. The awkward experiences they had there caused one of the Germans to remark:

"Austria's actually a nice country. The problem is that it's got fucking Austrians in it!!"
