Vince70
I’m after a bit of advice really as my father has a 2005/6 A class which has been a fantastic car for the last couple of years but the last week the alarm has been going off for no reason. I’ve told him to go for a new battery as with this weekends car parts 4 less sale I can pick one up for 47 quid. The thing is the car does hardly any miles and it was sitting in my garage for 6 months recently but I managed to get the old battery to charge eventually before dragging it out for the winter a few months ago.So do you think it could be the battery as the thing is the car always starts first turn of the key without hesitation as it sounds like it doesn’t need any help from the starter as it’s that reliable. gadgetgricey
Just for investigation purposes, does it have a button to disable the internal sensors. And if so does the alarm still go off? The past couple I've had, has been a dodgy sensor. Vince70
Crispian_J_Hotson
I'd get it checked out by a proper outfit. I say this because the PO of my BMW had this issue and got 'his mechanic', a bloke with extensive BMW experience to proceed to destroy the cars entire front loom rendering the car inoperable, ending up only being able to start by bodgery and the alarm in a bag for the princely sum of £500. djimbob
Check if there is a rechargeable alarm battery which has karked it, my brother had an ML320 which did this very same thing whilst he was on his jollies for 3 weeks unused - nice cheap ish fix Vince70
Vince70
I’ve just found out today that the car is as dead as a Dodo and doesn’t have enough power in the battery to even lock the doors so it looks like it’s a new battery is needed. djimbob
Vince70
I managed to put the new battery on a couple of nights ago and all is well with the a-class now..I will charge the old battery back up though as it had enough power in it to power the interior lights so it might just be that the car gets little use as it only gets used a couple of times a week to go down the shops.
