I'm finally at the point where I'm bored of the old girl so I think now when it's got almost a full MOT is the time to let it go! It's been a good relationship and I'm sad to wave her off but the saloon boot is just too impractical (had to borrow a friends clio to move a fridge freezer yesterday and that shouldn't happen when you own a big old volvo) a little bit about her, she's a 1996 Nreg volvo 850 2.5tdi manual transmission saloon, she's Swedish racing green with beige half leather interior, pretty clean for her age and has a lot of extras for a 22 year old car, here is a list of what works
4 electric windows
Electric/heated mirrors
Heated seats
Cruise control
Cd player/tape deck/radio
The list of what doesn't work now
The sunroofs got stuck open so once I got it closed I unplugged it incase it happened again
The milage reading has been on 209,000 since I bought it 2 years ago and I've honestly done about 50,000 miles in it since then.
It starts first time as long as you let the glow plugs heat up first, the car has never ever let me down.
In the time I've owned the car I have spent quite a bit of money keeping it right, last year I serviced it, so new oil and filters, it also had new brake discs and pads all around last year as well as having the springs and shock absorbers replaced (the previous owner had the car lowered I wanted it standard).
It's got a few scratches on the bottled and a bit of rust bubbling around one wheel arch but the car is very solid and always gets praised by the MOT tester.
I will consider a swap into something else Swedish preferably or interesting but it would need to have an MOT and be usable, not sure how much I want for the car so come at me with offers if you is interested
Oh yeah car is located in County Durham

Sounds a solid old motor, good luck with sale/swap.

Never failed looks good. When you hear of people spending silly money on boxy 70s & 80s chod, this is proof autoshiters have it right.

Good cars these, 130mph or 50mpg if you drive within British speed limits

60mpg on a run if you sit a bit below them too! Managed it last year in my early V70 TDi on a 600 mile round trip to London last summer. Deadly boring but amazing economy! I suspect my much newer XC70 will struggle to crack 45 driving it just as gently, but that's progress.

Assume from posts elsewhere that LP is getting this.

Any chance of a mini Durham meet for collection? Very cheeky, but I'd really like a go in one of these things! That and I can regale the story of being on holiday years ago and seeing LP driving past in a large boxy Volvo which smelt of chips.

That's the whole story mind.

Leaf and 405 with no head.

Moaty's cat's back, Zak.

I think so. Planning to place a deposit on it when I get home from work.

Where did you see me in a smelly Volvo??

Boat of garten, outside the post office. We were on our way out from Nethy Bridge and you were going the opposite direction.

I think it was a Volvo, certainly it was whatever you were driving at the time (I think it was Len Hatred.)

Well as is usually the way with me and cars, it has behaved itself for the whole two years I have owned it, however once I decide to part ways she decides to spit a spring out from under the clutch pedal, a spring which isn't available in the uk and can only be ordered from Sweden! So for the time being at least, she's staying with me, on a side note, 11 days for a spring to get from Sweden to Durham!

Is that the spring that makes clutch operation a bit lighter? I've had a couple which we missing that spring and still found it fine to drive long term. Fairly hefty coil spring for what it does.

Yeah that's the one however after having a trip to the garage the clutch feels completely different, I hate taking my car to garages because I feel like I never know what they have been doing to the car

Is the plastic part that goes on the end of the spring ok? That's normally the bit that breaks, letting the spring fall out. They're a poor design, I've had the pedal box out of one and it all goes flying once it's out.

The plastic coupling has snapped, as has the spring, it fell out in four pieces, put my foot down on the clutch heard a clunk, lifted my foot and whole thing fell out onto my foot
