Just picked up this locally, I've never had much love for VAG but it's quite a charmer for a Badermatic...

That's nice, very early mk2, no body kit and single wiper. I'm guessing 1.6 pierburg carb?

Are those Le Castelletes on it? I've not seen them matt before, mine are all shiny.

It is 1.6, not checked the carb and if you're talking about the wheels I've no idea! I'm not keen on them

Scirocco register used to be a good forum, v friendly and helpful if you're after parts or advice.

I've not been on in years as my 'rocco (1990 Scala) is in hibernation.

Liked these back then, and still like them now. Always thought they looked best on VW Scala alloys. Not sure those on it suit it-too smooth looking.

Is the Mk2 Scirocco the only car that was available from the factory with both single and dual front wipers?

I had an auto one of these, albeit a later 1.8 - it was a very pleasant thing to buzz around in, bit undergeared at speed but perfect around town.  Old automatic VWs seem to manage to get off the line a lot quicker than most contemporary autos for some reason.

I had a 1600GT , an early 1800GTI,  a Storm, a GTX , and a GT2 .  1600 engine was the sweetest , if a little underpowered .   The injected engines went like the clappers ..All were economical

The early ones had a single wiper, later versions had two.

It's not like it was an option!

Nice motor.

I had a 1984 Storm, it was bloody lovely. 1.8 injection which just pulled like buggery. The gearing, light weight.... once you'd mastered the slightly wonky gearchange it went like stink from a standing start.

It was in lovely condition when I sold it but it never saw another MOT, presumably broken for the absolutely mint brown leather interior. They only made 250 of them in Havana brown, and I reckon there's about 200-odd Mk1 Golfs driving around with tan leather.

I'd have another in a heartbeat. That looks lovely, the wheels are indeed La Castelett, normally semi-polished and look quite good fully polished. If you don't like them, there's decent demand for them from the 4-stud vadgers. Yours most likely had the 12-spoke Sport  9-spoke Tarantula wheels from new.

They're a bugger to sell, for some reason. Mine was in excellent condition, eventually got less than £450 for it with a full ticket. The Scirocco forum used to be good but it was starting to get a bit cliquey, I got a bit of heat on there for refusing to sell a grille spoiler separately and also from buying some Storm decals, but not from their "preferred" forum seller - instead saving a few quid and buying them off eBay.

Forum is still going, but has moved partly over to Facebook. There's some guys reproducing the rare trim parts now, I think Dreadnaught Customs is one of them.

They're still bizarrely cheap and largely ignored by the VAG crowd.

I have a growing stack of bits if you need anything.

Simply not popular enough. Always in the shadow of the Golf....and more expensive. Not unlike the Alfasud Sprint's relationship to the standard Alfasud (but without the rust problems). I remember VW advertising the Mk.2 Scirocco and making great play of its lower drag co-efficient of 0.38. The contemporary Mk.2 Golf came in at 0.34. People just went out and bought a Golf.

Back in the Eighties, the parents of a schoolmate had a Mk.1 Scirocco (YJJ 750V), I think) and the only way they could get rid of it quickly was to trade it in for a new Mk.2.

Lovely, that’s the best looking Scirocco unlike the current horror that looks like a Golf that’s been sat on by an elephant. I owned a stunning A plate one of these 17 odd years ago now, but it was just for 24 hours due to a young pizza faced tosser in a Fiesta XR2 rear ending the car and writing it off.......

I did not know these single wiper thing

Looks smart without the plastics all over, even when they were young they were driven by w*anky Estate Agent types.

Not now though, that looks smart.  So can I ask what you gave for it I don't remember seeing it advertised

Saying that, I remember some very rusty Mk1 Sciroccos vying for rot competitions with Sprints

They had single wipers until 1983. The one in the pics is a GL actually sporting an only SCIROCCO badge, you can tell by the side trim and chrome bumper lining, inside there's some nice velours. I had a (German spec) GTS for 11 years and a UK-Storm in Cosmos blue which lives among other Sciroccos in a collection now. Storms were made in Havannabraun und Cosmosblau only, 300 of each colour. Cosmosblau was already discontinued by 1984, Havannabraun a Storm-exclusive colour, making both of them very special.
