2003 Rover 25 iLX 1.4 5 door manual

MOT April (might be May, can't be arsed checking) 2018

TAXED TO GET YOU HOME M8

Alloy wheels!

Radio cassette!

Sunroof!

Why am I typing like this? Fuck knows!

92,900 miles

Starts and runs, the furthest I've been so far is about a mile.

Leather seats!

Leccy front windows, keep fit rears

Impotent:

Absolutely vile inside, by which I mean mostly the smell, which is similar to what I'd imagine roll ups infused with stale cats piss would smell like.

Desperately untidy as needs someone in a bio hazard suit to hoover it out.

Heater speed knob broken, so stuck on the second or third setting at a guess.

RWW doesn't work, half the clock lights don't, either.

Back bumper looks a different colour to me, but when it's wet it looks a bit better. So either just deal with it, or put an IBC of water in the boot and set it to leak out slightly as you drive along.

Doors lock/unlock off the remote, but it's quite haphazard and the supplied key doesn't fit the door, only the ignition.

More impotent:

Radiator fan seems to come on all the time with engine running.

Oil filler cap not too bad, but some small signs of mayo present

Dipstick seems to show a fair amount of mayo, I think it's cleared slightly since giving it a run and letting the engine warm up but it's most definitely best to assume it's done the usual trick of spunking the head gasket.

Strange occasional 'tick' noise randomly from engine at tick over (I've made a video, but don't know if it'll load on here)

Probably got a leak into the car somewhere as mists up the inside of the windows, and the rear window was damp inside.

Tyres all legal, one quite new, but they'd want replacing at some point reasonably soon.

There's bound to be some other things wrong with it too.

I ran it for about 10 minutes and the temp gauge started working and the heaters were starting to get warm. I took the expansion tank cap off and there was no back pressure, so if you're lucky it will be ok. I cannot stress enough though it's best to assume HGF, that way you won't be disappointed if it has.

Possibly worth it if you want interior, you could switch them for your mingebag cloth ones then sack this off at the bridge, also the alloys might float your boat etc.

£180, Chester. I've genuinely been offered fairly near that from the yard, and whilst it'd be a shame to see it weighed off I'm afraid that's what will happen if it's not gone soon. Appreciate that seems almost a 'threat' of some sort, not intended I can assure you. Could do with it going sharpish.

How vile - well done.  Actually looks pretty smart, would probably polish up a treat but honestly, I have enough of a dislike for these now that I'll not be sad if it goes to live at the farm.  Water leak is probably one of the rear windows or boot - the 3 door models leak like a sieve back there and the 5dr probably isn't much better.  If it's anything like the ZR I had, the spare wheel well will have several litres of water in it.

Honest though Rover, what on earth is going on with those seats?  I've seen better leather on an MFI sofa, surely if Rover could generally be counted on to do one thing well, it was interiors.

On that note, good luck with the sale!  In all fairness, would make someone a tidy, cheap little runaround and at that price, even getting the head gasket done wouldn't make it outrageously expensive.

I'd be sad to see it bridged to be honest - not a terrible specc'd 25 plus the bonus of an AV Ipswich plate ticks boxes for me.

Unfortunately I have neither the cash or space to acquire this beast. My luck would be that it gets bridged then my Astra spectacularly blows up straight after.

Where the rear hatch area mounts - round the hinge points seems a rust spot on these; I welded up two different 25's in this area 'back in the day' when they worth a few quid/ 4 or 5 years old; top hinge mount was completely frazzed with grot on both of them -they chap was bit of Rover 25/45 fetishist, n loved to have his one's 'right '...

...last I heard from him was after buying /towing home a 3dr 25 with HGF, but he was enthused about sorting that as it was a mega low miles 25, n he declared the boot area was solid so "nothing for you to do on this one"... God help him now, wherever he is....

You lot are doing great over there; I scrapped one of these (sans leather, but running and no signs of HGF) and a Galaxy in the run up to Chrimbo and after delivering them to the scrappy got €210

A working tdi auto Galaxy (needed €€€€ for test, NCT's far stricter than MOT) and a very reasonable 214 tested til February in turquoise and 4 weeks on every sales site and fb and they didn't shift at €150 offers

GLWS

Edited to add if I didn't deliver them, every scrapper was kind enough to collect for free; I live a small bit local (for that read up a mountain in the middle of nowhere, but still:))
