And the red Land Rover has played up again, the grey one is in having PAS fitted so I'm using the red one. Fortunately, although it's up for sale, I haven't cleaned it out yet so there were still tools in it. Yet again it's the ignition system, back to a misfire. Checked the points which have probably done just over 100 miles and they were pitted badly. I gave them a clean and it was ok for about ten miles before doing it again. That time I swapped them and the condenser for new ones (which were in a box under the seat). This is not the first time this has happened, which is why I carry spares and put the tools back in it, I'm not sure where the spare coil has got to because that should have been there as well.

Conclusion is that new ignition parts are shit.

Get one of these:

Or whoever is your local supplier of Distributor Doctor parts.

Why? Well the problem with a lot of the condensers out there...

Cheers, it's bloody annoying to have had to say no. But I'd have ended up in a studio flat paying a load more than my house costs currently with nowhere for my bikes etc & that'd just piss me off.

Bugger:( still, Kudos for being the best candidate!!!!!

Getting a lot of cold callers at the door lately, the proverbial duster salesman, moneyexpert (who try and get you to change energy supplier on your doorstep - nothing to do with Martin Lewis's set-up) and of course the good old Jehova's witness (although they seem to target Mrs Egg more!).

Probably should go in the other questions fred, but does anyone use a 'piss off' sticker on their door and does it work?

I've been the man in a cheap suit trying to get people to change to Eastern Energy and I would ignore any sticker I could possibly claim not to have spotted.

Just the JW's being bothersome here. They keep comeing back however extreme my claimed views against religion are. "Can I just leave you a magazine then?" "No, I've got plenty of bog roll" etc

I don't answer my door if I'm not expecting anyone. Anyone who knows me has my mobile, therefore, I reason that anyone calling at the door is trying to rip me off, is the local murderer/rapist/thief or somone recruiting for a cult. Local weirdos seem to have got the message and don't bother any more.

A couple of years ago I had a Jehovah's Witness come up to me and open his spiel with 'Excuse me sir, I can see you're busy, but I was wondering - can you honestly say that you believe in the progress of science and technology over the beneficence of an almighty God?'

I'd spent the previous 40 minutes leaning over my Xantia trying to smash stripped air box screws up with a hacksaw blade, a flathead screwdriver and a hammer. Closest I've ever been to joining a cult.

I miss my German Shepherd,I never had cold callers wanting to hang around. The bloke who trained us taught her a useful trick. She would sit calmly by me, but all I had to do was tweak her collar and she would jump up and down snarling and barking. You don't get the same reaction with a Spaniel

This seems true & rather annoys me as I've no intention of fitting electronic ignition on my Bonnie, it had three boyer bransons breakdowns in 6k as they died quicker the service time on points. I'd rather have a bike that works perfectly well than slightly, unnoticeably better timing till it breaksdown.

Try harder!

I once answered the door to JWs in full bike leathers at a mate's house, oh & I was holding a carving knife & kept testing the edge too. I let them get started & interrupted with 'We're scarificing a goat, would you like to join the ritual?' the lack of an answer meant I added 'It was one of Mr Crowley's favourites'. Oddly they tried to leave so I followed them down the road asking if they knew where to get cheap goats....

They never came back to that entire road :D it's a game of bullshit bingo, if you win they are bad loosers.

My mate used to get 'the knock' every weekend from the JW's despite a sign on the door and many, many requests for them to desist. They were unfailingly polite but still they continued to call.

In the end he turned up at one of their kingdom hall meetings and staged a not so silent protest. He promised that if they continued to disrupt his personal time, he would continue to disrupt theirs. Every week.

They still visit his street but strangely, his house is no longer called upon.

Went to a stunt show with the wee lad last night, he loved it. Was good to be fair. The MK2 was class, sounded spot on. They chucked it up on two wheels and the underside looked good as well. Lots off filler on the arches and stuff but its sounded great. I want one now.

The Civic they chucked up on stilts to crash into was solid. The hammered the sills to get the posts to sit it up. Wish the sills on my Kia were as solid.

Rover 75 has passed its MOT without any issues.

which is nice, mind in preparation for the test the car has had new front drop links fitted, and a new bottom arm.

it got a new arm cos there was a country mile of play in the bottom ball joint, which i think was more to do with the pinch bolt or hub been loose, cos when we did fianlly get the replacement arm on to the car, there was just as much play in the joint!

shit...

have we got a faulty one? no, looking and feeling all over the joint showed that the ball joint wasn.t moveing, the hub was.

so, armed with a long pole on the ratchet, and, plenty of "brave" thoughts, we tightened up the joint, another couiple of clicks..... and then a couple more.... and the play was taken up!

thank christ for that!!

and now we have another years test on it.

happy dayz again!

I saw Bandit at a show near Bexleyheath some 20 years ago and they had a stunt car MK2 then too. I wonder....

Bought this as new 'vintage' car stereo radio cassette player from eBay:

post-4796-0-98054800-1532103873_thumb.jpg

I have no particular need for it at the moment (The Volvo has a nice Blaupunkt unit), but it only cost £15 all-in and no doubt will come in handy one day.

Some schmuck is selling the same stereo for £159! Good luck with that, buddy!

How'd you make the car hover outside the left hand window like that?

I saw the poster on eBay and had to have it. My car is identical and the SE as shown, not the Gran finale. It’s a dealer only supply and I’ve never seen once before. The framing was quite reasonable given the size- about £48.

In other news, I’ve just been attacking the odd paint on the merc’s nearside rear panel. It looks like the top layer ( there seem to be more than one from previous painting) of lacquer is crazing and cracking. I have some farecla scratch remover that seems to have taken the loose edges off, but it’s still a bit untidy. It needs that some painting really. But until then does anyone have any better paint repair solutions?

If you give that a gentle tidy up with some fine grade wet 'n dry as much as possible and the a dose of rattle can lacquer it should improve things a lot. It certainly did on some scuffed paint and peeled lacquer on my Saab. Be very careful not to take off too much paint though - I did on one wing mirror and went through to the primer underneath and it now looks worse.
