Those mx5 are a good bit of fun and for £500 sheets you can't go wrong when you can punt the wheels on, I had A great time ragging an rs model which is an import 1.8 6 speed with lsd, check for rot also check the rad the plastic top tank likes to split and depart from the rest of the rad

All these collection capers going on, and I'm sat at home with ONE ever so sensible runabout on the drive. (Resists looking at e bay)

I can send you links to all the cars I want you to buy and then sell on to me on payday if that helps?

Trigger, as echoed above I reckon you've got a good deal. I've been casting furtive glances at MX5s recently and decent MK1s and MK2s are stronger money than I expected. Once you ca$hback the wheels you should have a desirable, original, distinctively coloured car that you can enjoy this current warm spell in and then be up on the deal come CUL8R time.

I know the square root of sod all about them and I haven't even looked at the car properly other than passing glances in the works car park!

Ha! I'm only 38 and I'm not much of a hairdresser! To be honest the plan is to clean it, mot it and get it back out the door. It will need a bloody good clean now and no doubt a few little jobs, we had agreed on £500 + £250 back to her once i sold it but we've now agreed on £600 in total and she's dropping it off to me, probably this afternoon if her new car is ready.

Anyone know what a set of ATS wheels are worth? Are these the same fitment as a VW? I've found a set of alloys on eBay about 2 hours away which I might chuck on instead.

Good call on ditching the wheels. Without coming over all Troy Queef for me my old mx5 was all about the feel of driving and having huge alloys just blunts the feel for me. My old mx5 had fat jdm wheels which sold well and I chucked a set of standard rims and tyres on. So much more fun.

Mind you it's one of the few cars I've lost control of exiting a roundabout, probably because it seemed to make me drive that sort of way. In the end I sold it for my own/ other people's safety.

Mrs fp has agreed for me to be stripping down her rs turdbo so I can sort any bits of rust that is hiding (im under no impression that there wont be any as its an 80s ford) so that it can have a new paint job etc without worrying that work will need to be done afterwards, I have now moved it to my working area so i can make a start stripping it down and at the end of the month when the tax is up it will be sorned, who knows I may even start a project thread for it

Had a phone call from the insurance assessors. Looks like it's touch and go if it's a write-off. Boot floor is straight but the crash beam has hit the back of the body and bent it. He reckons that these Civics are a pain to try and get realigned all again.

Needs to be confirmed by their engineer and then the insurance company will be in contact for settlement values if written off.

Because I'm nice, I've lent my motorbike boots to a colleague. I don't ride very often so thought I could do him a good turn.

Because I'm an idiot, the very next day I get a reminder that all the paperwork is due on the bike... So I fact I do need to ride it, to get it to the garage for an MoT. Plonker.

I've got it home, I don't really know what to think, it drives well enough and is certainly quick! But it has its issues which im not sure I can be arsed with, the ABS light is on, it doesn't start every well but I think it's in desperate need of a service, there not much history with it and worse is the rust around the arches, being yellow the paint has faded too so painting it would be a nightmare to match.

I'm half tempted just to punt it back on for £600 and get my money back on it, especially as the wheels are meant to be worth £300+ on their own?
