Mondongo 2.0 TDCi Zetec £550

Hello folks,

trying to help shift this on for my mate as hes been messed about twice now by ebay/scumtree 'buyers'.

He bought the car around February/March this year but doesnt have a licence, so its never been used by him, hes spent a fair bit, probably more than the cars worth tidying it up, but then decided he wanted the prefacelift model of Mondeo mk3, so this is up for sale:

Details:

- 2004 '53' plate Mondeo 2.0 TDCI 130 Zetec 5 door, State blue in colour, its the first facelift, has done under 92,000 miles from new, 4 owners including him, pretty much a full service history from new (stamped book, not many invoices), and hes done a V888 to the DVLA so knows most of the cars history.

Its in really good condition for a 14 year old car, it was bought with a dented front wing and a split in the front bumper, mate sourced a mint condition genuine Ford bumper and wing in the same colour and fitted them, its had a new bonnet lock, and seemingly had a common Mondeo mk3 trait of leaking water into a footwell somwhere which was sorted and he tore out the old carpet and fitted a carpet from one of the few which didnt have this issue and was mint condition.

Its MOT'd until 15th November 2018 having just gone through an MOT last month, think it needed a couple of tyres, couple of coil springs, thats about it. No advisories!

Having driven it it drives very well, clutch isnt heavy, no signs of a rattling DMF that I can hear, starts no problem from cold or warm, infact, and im not just saying this, its one of the tightest and best mk3s ive ever driven, its certainly up there with the 1-3 year old examples I was regularly driving in the motor trade.

Its a 130bhp Zetec so that means all colour coded, 16" alloys, front fogs, its had a Ghia leather armrest fitted, digital electronic climate control, cruise control, heated windscreen, all round electric windows and heated mirrors, remote central locking, alarm, several airbags, ABS, quite a well equipped car for the age.

Hes looking for £550 for it.

Will shove up some pics when he sends me them, but ive seen the car loads of times and its very tidy, the split bumper and dented wing were the only damage on it which wasnt just chips or scratches.

Location is Kilmarnock, Scotland, about 15-20 miles outside Glasgow.

The pre facelift looked more or less the same, the difference was mostly in the interior.

If it runs good he ought to kept it cause most 2001-2003 Mondeo diesels will be piles of steaming shit. TDdis are few and far between now and when they do crop up they are usually rinsed. The 03 onwards are generally better anyway. That's my two pennath anyway.

If its not flashing the glow plug light all the time I'd keep it until it does.

He doesnt have a licence, plus hes decided he prefers the original mk3 better so has bought a 52 plated 1.8 petrol Zetec, hes also got a 1998 Escort mk6, a 1999 Transit smiley, and 2 buses all getting fixed up and sorted out so this is really surplus to requirements.

Hes just told me it was serviced last month with proper Ford spec oil and filters

Doesn't have a licence...owns six vehicles. I really should insert one of them pictures of a celebrity pulling a funny face here.

Is he on a ban or not old enough?

Neither, hes 26 and never held a licence, he just likes cars and tinkering, but never been much interested in actually driving until now, bus is a long term resto like the bus geeks are into, Transit smiley is a project, Escort mk6 is a low mileage quite tidy garaged one which needs little to make it excellent condition, Neither of these are planned to be daily drivers.

The Mondeo was bought to be his first car when he passed his test, but he decided he wanted a petrol on the original prefacelift style so has since bought a 52 plate 1800 Zetec to be his first on the road car. This is after inbetween times deciding he wanted a BMW and acquired a scrapped 04 plate 320 SE petrol from the breakers we go to, old guy had owned from new, BMW full history, M sport bumpers etc as factory option, cream leather 90,000 miles, old guy bought a brand new 1 series and rather than trade 3 series in scrapped it, recognising it was too good for scrap the breakers sold him it for 200quid, he spent 200-odd getting it through an MOT and sold it for a grand.

Mondeo seen here is a nice car, mk3 Mondeos just arent my thing, 1 modern commonrail diesel is enough for me! For the money id doubt theres a better mk3, with as tidy bodywork and a fresh ticket which shows no impending signs of doom, He has just been messed about twice by the ebay/gumtree mong messers we are all too well aware of!

Engine running & EML on I spot in that photo

Old photo, I believe that got sorted while it was being MOTd, ill check, certainly when I last drove it there was no EML and it ran faultlessly, the photo was just to illustrate the mileage.

I still go into s pale sweat when I see a flashing glow plug light. Thats usually the one that flashes as opposed to the EML.

It's the light I got when my turbo actuator thing went on my 130 TDCi and the car went into limp dick mode.

However, for £550 the car for sale here is tidy and if you wanted to do 120 miles a day on a motorway until the MOT ran out you'd be motoring for 'free' within a couple of months.

Hardly the Autoshite ethos? Surely making inadvisable motoring decisions is something we can all relate to.

It’s a statutory ailment.

Long live inadvsable motoring decisions! (and good look with the sale of the Mundano - looks good for the money).

He can't even drive, yet wants to bin off one povvo Mondeo for another, cos he doesn't like the triangular front fogs.

Plus owns loads of other stuff, already.

Someone needs to have a word, before the lad wastes all of his money on stuff that will never turn a wheel.

What pics would you like in my blue forum style pennance thread?

People can surely own what they wish with their own money, even if those things are seemingly useless to them in the normal sense.

It seems that there is the potential for someone here to benefit disproportionately from this chap's temporal and monetary efforts, and therefore questioning his sanity seems unreasonable.

It is, if it starts without clag, idles smooth and isn't flagging up glow plug warning lights its worth it to run it till it drops then get most of your money back breaking it.

Doesnt have glow plug lights, idles as smooth as ive ever heard a diesel mk3 Mondy, and as for smoke not that I recall, obviously some may be thinking I would say this as its my mates car, but he picks good ones, he actually bought this after looking for ages for a tidy one which was supplied through his local dealer when new, had full history and not much wrong with it, as I said it needed some tyres, had 2 broken springs, and a dented wing and a split in the bumper which have all been fixed, I even helped change the wing and bumper.
