If it helps my Capri ones aren’t much better than that either! I don’t think they were ever all that great really.
Great that they are actually working though.

I might take the cluster apart and clean out the filters and the light tubes as they look a bit mucky :(

Many just use normal bulbs for now with new sockets but not yet rulling out LED's...............

I like the old technology not keen on LED's on the exterior but would prefer the gauges to stand out a little better ;)

as for leds dont forget they have a viewing angle of 70* compared to a bulb which is about 180ish- so you possibly get bright spots with led

the bulbs and holders look pretty generic ford (if they are quite big)

if they are the smaller type most types can be got at hellfrauds etc

ford used these loads- smoll ones for the warning lights like oil, brakes, temp etc and they used the mahoosive ones for night illumination all through the 80s/90s

I've found the little "corn cob" warm white ones to be acceptable for light distribution within a tight space.

t10-led-bulb-2380.jpg
This type, they do most bases.

Or you can use cool white ones to make a mean electric turquoise to match the color the car used to be.

I seem to have all the dash lights working now, well the backlights at least ;)

I spent the day disassembling the cluster and all the enclosure plastics that were black and dusty with 43 years of grime are now sparkling daz white and the bulb filters are spotless :)

Warning lights well theres a group of six and only one works thought I believe base models only three worked anyhow the others were a cost option

And of the three that should, seatbelt warning doesnt but I think its been disconnected? and the other says Brake assuming parking brake?

But the oil light does work ;)

One thing I cannot figure out though is though I replaced the left indicator tell tale bulb as it was dimmer than the right but its still dimmer than the right?

Any Ideas why not even a new bulb will make it glow any brighter yet the right hand one is like a searchlight!

I will nip out later once its dark and try and take more pics now it appears to be sorted

Is voltage the same at both indicator tell tale bulb holders? Maybe the dimmer one has a bad joint or something causing a voltage drop?

Mine does the same. Must be an American thing.

As you can see there, BRAKE is parking brake plus any warning for system faults- split system failure, fluid levels (delete as applicable).

Well I am not sure whether or not to post here or on "The Dash at Night" ?

I Can Haz Dash Lights
The diffusing filters were minging!

Before

37401936_2083457735314590_60305251317663

After

37395463_2083457828647914_27818661445736

To get them out you have to take the cluster apart and it appears to use the whole housing as a reflector ;-)

So I scrubbed them clean and nice and white

37424321_2083457705314593_91967518767988

That was just the first pass, they were so filthy I had to do them several times!

Whilst the gauges were out I cleaned up their connections :-D

37424855_2083457755314588_81726470027235

Anyway heres the real Money Shots

37592142_2083457905314573_51593113009033

As you can see much brighter than yesterday.

Pictures dont show the colour well they appear white when in fact they are tranquil "Summer Mouthwash" ;-)

yes read the handbook mine is the same supposed to be handbrake plus if you have a loss of hydraulic pressure. Not sure why it doesnt come on with the Handbrake though?must be a switch on or near the handbrake I guess thats gone faulty?

Normally there'll be a switch under the lever that puts the BRAKE warning bulb wire that goes to it to ground; these buttons get full of sticky soda, dust, lint and (given the location) quarters*.
