Just got some pics from the Seller with the cars new boots (original Steels) plus registration plates.

Bit confused as these are different registration to the Title?

However he did say he was including the original plates for me,do you change registration over there when a car changes keeper?

They are not old Blue/Yellow plates which is a shame but I could get a set of Blue/Yellows made up with that number as show plates ;)

Im sure you will agree looks wayy better on the Steel Rostyles that the Minilite style alloys :-D

Yes it does!  And so dainty too against the "new" Challenger :)

I think the registration does change with ownership, as you suspected, but it wouldn't be hard to have some yellow-on-blue show plates made up, possibly with whatever number DVLA gives you.

Registration is similar to Road Tax - or whatever the fancy new name for that is.  You know a vehicle's regisration is current as there will be a sticker in each corner of the rear license plate showing the month (on one side) and year (on t'other) that the registration expires.

Plates usually stay with the car unless the owner has vanity (private) plates - in which case he/she will keep them and transfer them to their next vehicle.

I hope he didn't just pay registration on that as it won't be needed now it's off to sunnier shores ;-)

Title is the document proving ownership - pink slips, which aren't pink...

i wondered what he meant when he said Pink Slips in Hand? I thought he had been drag racing LOL! He did say there were previous plates in the trunk I am guessing it had a Different reg once? These dont appear to have any tags on them from what I can see? Expired?

Ive asked why theres a discrepancy just waiting on a reply

I wouldn't be bothered about it.  It's not unusual to buy a car without a plate - and as you are taking it to Tropical Blighty all you will need is the Title/Pink Slip

I wonder how helpful the seller would be if you asked him to get you some personalized California plates?  For a fee of course...

If he's a member of AAA it wouldn't be a huge hassle - but it might be just a bit more than he would be willing to do for you...

https://www.dmv.ca.g...pp2/initPers.do

You can play around on the above link to see what you could get.  Naughty stuff won't be allowed - even if it makes it through the online process some steely-eyed grey faced jobsworth in Sacramento will deny it.

For example 76 PNY is available on a Black/Yellow plate for the grand total of $50 (can't remember if yours is a '76)

Of course it takes about 8 weeks and you have to collect the plates from AAA or DMV and show proof of current registration and turn in at least one of the old plates (I always keep one for the garage wall).  So there is a bit of faffing around, so he'd have to be a pretty decent sort to do all of that for you.

Pretty sure that's the issue date of the title (probably a duplicate as he didn't have the original) - top line says it's a 1975 Ford, that should be enough.

It has nothing listed under year first sold - same as it has nothing under Ax, unladen weight, transfer date, equipment/trust number, odometer date/reading.

If it were me I wouldn't borrow trouble - cross whatever bridges there are when you come to them...

License plate - doesn't matter - not going to used in the UK and like I said, common to buy a car with no plates at all.  Most new cars drive around with no plates for a few weeks.

Fayke Playtes M8 - not as good as originalz

That space should have first year of sale directly under it. The 2017 is the year it was registered by the seller. The car may be out of state, hence the missing first year of sale.

I think with the 1975 model year you will be ok. The 2017 date is probably when the document was issued for the keeper change

'65 Ford Thunderbird on it's way from the US

'69 Seat 1500 hearse

'77 Renault 7 sold

'99 Peugeot 806 (with slightly less dents)

^^^^ What Meowdchina said

Or it could have been bought with no title and only a bill of sale, and that date is just the date this new title was issued.  Whatever the explanation I don't think it will be a problem for you...

*disclaimer - DVLA are related to DMV so may (read probably will) or may not sulk and make a crinkly mouth before finally agreeing to let you register the car...

Here it is, This is my Triumph title, which has always been a California car and date of first sale is present.

CIMG2176.JPG

Here's the truck which was first registered in Massachusetts, date of first sale missing.

CIMG2175.JPG

The issue date is different because that is the date I registered it in Cal......not the date I first registered it in my name, which was in Mass.

It had been in a barn on a farm for year until he found it last year

That'll be why then - when he dragged it out of the barn the previous owner probably couldn't find the title, so a duplicate was applied for and issued in 2017.

Registration and title are not the same.

All good in the hood!

I am always putting the title to my cars in a safe* place.  So safe I can never find them when I need them...

Just to confirm what me old china meowdchina just said - I checked the title of my Rover P6 and it's the same as it was an out of state car; in your case 2017 represents the year title was transferred to the new owner - mine shows 2011 which is when I drug it out of a barn/field/overgrown carport in Nor Cal.

Since I have got time on my hands now awaiting the steed my thoughts have turned to paint!

Before we go down the "Do not Paint" avenue I have to agree with Junkman

There you go ive said it,might not happen again?

If the car had its original paint and it was sunburned oxidised with peeling flaking lacquer I would just say sod it and leave it as is because thats added charm ;)

As it is its Flat Black :-(

I was talking to the bodyshop guy at my local garage, hes a good guy and said you dont want to paint it yet just enjoy it!

He can pull the dent out for me and blow it over with Red Oxide leaving me to cover it with whatever?

Thing is theres two goals I want from this car

A/ I have always wanted one,as Dan said its my dream car!

B/ The whole journey must be cheap as chips!

For what it is it was cheap,we all know the shipping makes it not so cheap so somewhere I have to rein things back in!

So back to paint...................................

Even if my bodyshop guy did me the deal of the century its going to be 4 figures :(

Dont want that!

So I want others thoughts on this?

My plan is at first I want to blow over the repaired wing in Satin Black and just use it,I can always wait for the more misarable season to come back around and take it off the road then?

Ive thought of Rustoleum its cheap but not sure?

The car was originally silver which is a bit dull :(

But whatever I do it has to work with the blue interior.

I did think of Midnight Blue and even Trendy Grey!

Not sure I want metalics as there are a bugger to match I just want oldschool solid colour.

I dont want show paint either more of a 80's Backstreet Blowover ;)

Before anybody says blow the paint off I believe theres another other colour below the paint in fact its still in the door jambs,Original silver was burnt through by the sun after 20 odd years of service then it was repainted solid blue and then that paint was finished hence the black (would of thought Satin black a bad choice for the Cali Sun!)

Anyway thoughts guys?

You to Junkman!

Get some scrap panels and a bit of paint and have a go with rollering and/or brushing it on; if you get a finish you can live with do the car yourself; landrover owners do it with rollers! :D
