Probably a bit rich for the forum, but due to a quite impulsive car purchase today (aren't they all?) I have to move one on, and our Tipo is too heavily invested in to offer up.

So, this is a lovely little car. Previous owner replaced a shed ton of bits, cambelt, waterpump, clutch, driveshafts, tyres are all good, I forget what else he did but essentially this drives almost as well as it would have new. It feels tight, the gears lock in, the clutch is the right weight etc. Perky little 1.1 is quicker than you'd expect too.
Had been declared CAT C at some point but I suspect that was minor as there isn't really any signs of that anywhere.

Anyway let the photos do the talking:

So it looks pretty nice right? Drives well, as I previously said, it was a stand in daily back in September and coped fine with it. Oddly it felt more refined than the later AXs I have owned, although the lesser sound deadening is obvious.

It's done 80k by the way. These TZX spec cars were more or less top of the range when new, so you get a 5th gear, a glovebox lid, nice wheeltrims and really comfortable velour seats.

The negatives:

Some signs it was once just an old car as it has a few dings and such on the body.
Was leaking through a window seal but tape has sorted that. It's an area basically 1cm long.
Rear window wash nozzle is MIA, however i got one from a scrapper which can be fitted.
Sunroof seal looks a bit gappy, never leaked though. You'll get a perfect one as a spare, again lifted from a scrapper.
Stereo not fitted, but I have one to go with.
Home made speakers look shit but hey, part of the cars charm I guess?!
Rear headrests aren't original, still look cool in such a small car though.
Oddly the bumpers supposedly weren't like that at new, and were body coloured? I actually don't think that is true as I have never seen a TZX spec AX with body coloured bumpers....
Some very small signs of rust appearing around fuel filler but its two bubbles.
Slight crack on windscreen corner.

Overall, a nice little car and one i am torn about selling. However, at this point in my shite career it's redundant and hasn't been on the road since September. Has a proper old car smell too, like oil and petrol, which is a huge part of its charm.

Oh and the dash hasn't cracked!!!

MOT until June 2018. No advisories on the previous test either.

Located in Reading.

it will be bunged on carandclassic if no one fancies it. I appreciate its quite strongly priced but MK1 AXs are genuinely rare now, and they're heaps more charming than the later versions.

I did think that top of the range with unpainted bumpers was a bit odd. Google seems to show a mix of both but may be mixing in results for other specs.

That's flipping gorgeous! Were I in the position to do so I'd be beating a hasty path to your door right now as AXs are a huge amount of fun but I'm a bit skint unfortunately.
Good luck with the sale, in that condition though it shouldn't hang around long.

The original AX had much better suspension and handling than the updated version with posh dash. Later ones had stiffer springs and arbs and couldn't be driven pied-a-plancher on anything other than perfect roads, obv far less comfy too.

I swapped an E plate AX11 for a CX turbo with a couple of hundred quid as a sweetener, it took 5¼ hours/32mpg to Penzance going and 4¼/26 returning.

Oh! I would love a series 1 AX. They are so much nicer looking than the later ones. Everything from the offset chevrons to the notbodycoloured bumpers.

I am off out to buy scratchcards.

These have a big long screenwash reservoir across the back of the car as a sort of impact absorber behind the rear bumper right? Remember someone in ‘CAR’ magazine marvelling at that as a neat packaging measure back in the day.

Be great to take the rear bumper off and pump the tank full of blancmange just in case you ever got rear ended. Let the emergency services work out what the hell is all this mysterious pink wobbly gloop splattered all over the road.

It's on eBay now. No weirdos just yet thankfully but I've opted for the 'safe' approach of a classified advert instead of an auction.

My red AX has body-coloured bumpers (well pre-pogweasling) and the bootlid says it's a TZX, but the v5 says it is a TE (I think) so it maybe a replacement bootlid.

Drove this thing last night after nearly 3 months. Obviously it still feels the same but after driving Clios with offset to the right pedals (and actual pedals at uniform sizes) it felt weird!.

I will miss it when it goes for sure. eBay hasn't been too useful, and Facebook has been flattering for the car, but nothing concrete. It's almost as if there's something going on in a few days...

Bump. I actually haven't had anyone message me about this car anywhere annoyingly. I had one guy offer me £650. Nope.

It's not a huge rush to sell it as it's insured, and I've already filled the space it would leave, but y'know.
