So my mother has had this Almera for everIMG_20171202_153800.jpg
It is no longer ideal. Not enough doors, tax too high, economy too low. It is getting tired and now the clutch is on the way out. Oh and she has a dodgy left arm but can drive the Almera fine.

So I bought her a Corolla auto off Taxipaul

It hurt her arm so I adapted the shift. Still painful so SORNED the Corolla and went back to the Nissan...

She doesn't want to try any more cars, all others have flared up the arm issue and she is quite upset about it. She has grown into the Almera.

So...

I need an Almera 1.4 5 door. A nice one, not a dog. Can travel to a shiter verified car but am reluctant to travel far to look at one more than 60 or so miles away and waste my day.

No massive rush but if any of you lot come across such a car then let my know. I know these are thinning out fast though.

If anything pops up around Cambs or Watford let me know and I’ll scout it.

Good luck with the search. My dear old Grandad was very fond of his, and I took it on after his passing.

These are ace cars, the 1.4 isn't lacking for anything really. Let me know if you do get one because I have a stash of spares - a rad, headlights, rear lights, various other things for them. if you can stay on top of the sill rot then they are utterly capable and dependable motors.

Thanks

I shall be keeping this one indefinitely, be a shame to scrap it although it shall lend bits to the next one if it needs any. This one has never gone wrong in 17 years though so doubt it will need much. I did the inner and outer sills on it a couple of years ago but there is some rot behind the back wheels now

So..

I found a few for sale but they are all being sold before the listings end in eBay.

I found the perfect one on eBay. Local ish. W reg, one owner, 34,000 miles. I bid £750 on it to make sure I got it. It made £777. Seems a bit overpriced to me!

Who knew they were so desirable!

Found another one owner but 70,000 miler in Croydon. I don't really want to drive all the way down with the trailer to view a knacker. Anybody in that area fancy taking a peek at it for me? Would pay for your time!

The later Almeras aren't so good, timing chain and gearbox issues.

Thanks but apart from the later ones not being as good, it is more that I need the driving position to be exactly the same.

I think they'd sorted those issues by the time they gave it a minor facelift in 2002/3, I took my 2003 car from around 40k to 170k over an 8 year period and it never missed a beat despite not receiving a huge amount of TLC. The front crossmember seems a bit rust prone much like the rear sills are on the original shape. I did find the seats quite low so not the easiest to get in and out of but comfortable once you were in.

The search is specifically for the original variant anyway, so hopefully there's a nice one out there.

The later Almeras aren't so good, timing chain and gearbox issues.

Almera purchased ( although not by me yet! )

Aiming for collection Thursday

I think I have a car to take from Ludlow to Warwick first which leaves an empty trailer from there to Croydon if anybody wants to fill it.

Can do a diversion if needed

I am thinking of setting up in business as a shite buying agent. Employ my services and I'll guarantee to completely fail to negotiate any discount on the asking price, and will also separate the keys and V5 from the car by an inconvenient distance!

In my defence, trying to explain to two Eastern Europeans with limited English that the fact that they've had several phone calls does not necessarily mean they're not going to all be messers was beyond me, and £395 for a car with 11 months MOT, four fairly decent tyres (Firestones and Marangonis, so hopefully better than Chinese death rings), and which started on the button and drove up and down the alley fine seemed fair anyway. There was also the fact that they're apparently not easy to come by in the exact spec required in this instance, so I handed over the cash and the deal was done. I am hopeful that the car will do the business, it's a bit scabby and I daresay the already plated sills will need doing again at some point, but mechanically it seemed spot on and was serviced by the local Nissan main stealer 300 miles ago. The windows, wipers, heater, lights etc. all work as they should, and it had a new battery. Touch wood.

Crazy to think that these were once everywhere, but then I remembered that my dad's was scrapped eight years ago for "uneconomical to repair" rot, and it was in better condition than average!

Looks great Mr T

Did you want a selection of spares for it? Seems a shame to junk them...

1x Radiator

3x rear lights (2 of one side and 1 of the other)

1x pollen filter

1x oil filter

3x headlights (2 of one side and 1 of the other)

probably some other bits too? I'll have a dig in the shed later on. All free.

Lincolnshire is far preferable on all counts.

London is a hateful place full of ignorant drivers. 4 hours of stop start traffic. Horrible. I have no wish to repeat that!

Thankyou, yes please I would like those. I'm keeping the SRi and I hope the new purple one will last indefinitely so spares may come in handy. These cars will be rare in a few years.

However, I'm nowhere near you and rarely head that way. If you could hold on to them I'm sure we can getbthem relayed?

They are mostly boxed in the garage and ready to go whenever needed. They have remained there for 2 years now so no rush! I can get them nearer you if other shiters can assist with a relay.
