garethj
If you sold the running gear for cash money, you could put a Suzuki SJ chassis under it and have a much easier job with the DVLA. Win-win

DodgeRover
Erm what happened to the escort van vin and plates? I have seen many of these running about not on Qs / does it come with any if from the donor at all. Anyway well bought - if you don't have it I will
Stanky
So, I was wrong - the 'kit' comprises a glassfibre body and box-section chassis, to which you fit various parts - suspension, engine, axles, brakes, some lights, gearbox from an escort and then a smattering of other bits from other vehicles. So its not a rebodied escort (and this is why it has to be SVA's and Q-plated). Or can be left unregistered and driven off the public highway as required. John F
It's a Jago Jeep. A FREE one, in Swimming Pool Blue. A 'Q' plate would only add to what is already a metric shit-ton of win. wuvvum, AMC Rebel, catsinthewelder and 23 others
Dave_Q
Had a google about these things and it seems that the chassis is given a Jago chassis number which is apparently on the front suspension strut mount. I reckon the thing to do, once you've got it home like, is to see if it's got a chassis number and get a tame shiter to run the chassis number through HPI - apparently some of these things were registered as Jago on the logbook with an age related plate. If is has been registered in the past then you could be on your way with a £25 duplicate V5. If nothing comes up then you will have to go through SVA, but it sounds like that will be your main cost, give or take a sheet of plywood and a few odd bits. Supernaut
Bloody hell. That's incredibly tidy-looking, especially considering the price! I was expecting an utterly fucked old heap, instead that looks absolutely mint apart from the (easily replaced) ply floor. Pillock
Honestly, I don't see the stigma with a Q plate on one of these. If it was a BMW X5 that you were trying to sell on for full retail price then yeah, a massive warning sign. But this is clearly what they had a picture of on the wall in the DVLA office when they dreamed up the Q plate regulations. Part and parcel. It's free, so with a bit of sensible finishing (like, I dunno, a floor made out of something that doesn't soak up water like a sponge) this could be the win of the year. It looks in really good nick, I've only just caught this thread so I read page one and mentally pictures something that looked like it had been in the bottom of a lake, or used as a shed. Get it finished. Interesting thoughts on how to make it 4x4 though. I wonder if anything could donate running gear that hasn't got massive scene tax applied - a Justy perhaps? lisbon_road, AMC Rebel and Vince70
hairnet
Right, shit. Just semi committed to this (and am nursing a semi over it) so now need to go home and tell the wife. The same one who said absolutely no more cars ever on pain of death. Off to the shops to get chocolates and flowers! I got back home and gave her the chocs and flowers and told her she deserved nice things and why don't we go out for dinner soon maybe. She gave me the 'what are you planning' look. I fessed up and told her an unmissable business opportunity had arisen. I showed her a pic of a (amazingly well) finished one. To my utter astonishment the answer was "Wow, really, free? I really like them! Go get it, you deserve a treat. Plus when its finished we can all go out in it" I then pinched myself so hard I've got a blood blister on my arm and potentially bone damage "Can you just say that once more, while I record it please darling?" "Go on, how bad can it be? You can always scrap it if its fucked" keeper marry her again cos keeper ROFL at the newsagent pics eddyramrod and chodweaver

Plenty of knackered kit cars turn up on eBay for pennies that could donate their ID. Sounds dodgy but nobody will know or care. Well apart from us lot. Jim Bergerac
It's not SVA anymore, it's IVA which is a lot more stringent. Suspect it would be difficult to get through if the Jago hasn't been registered already.

Suspect it would be difficult to get through if the Jago hasn't been registered already. This I'm afraid. I suspect that is one reason it was free-the build probably started when an SVA was needed but now it needs an IVA it's a lot more difficult. Still, free! Stanky
Task 1 will be to get it running under its own power and stopping again. Then i can look at options for how to proceed with getting it on the road. Was your locost (?) already registered when you got it? dome
dollywobbler
That's amazing! quicksilver
Very well played sir. "Kit car free to good home" would scare most folks away with visions of abandoned, half-built, badly thrown together heaps that have no hope of ever seeing the road so to get something almost roadworthy is a right result. I don't see any way you can lose with this even if you break it but it looks too good for that. eddyramrod
