Rover 75 (Yes, Again)

I keep gravitating back to these wonderful cars.  It's the mix of retro and modern, the styling cues from the P series cars, the fact that they're probably the best FWD car of the 90s and that they're available in really unique specs that makes them appeal greatly.

I nearly had the perfect one earlier this year, but I just didn't like the Wedgwood colour.  Silly I know, but it wasn't "the one".

I'm on the hunt again, so thought I'd ask here in case anyone knows of something that's "not quite for sale yet".

I've seen one or two that I like, and know of a couple more on here.

I do want a 6 cylinder car.  Whilst they feel like an 'occasion' to drive, that's moreso with the bigger engines. (I've had 3 of these before)

I do want something a bit different.  No JRG with sandstone cloth.

Basically I'd like my last car in a different colour.

Thanks guys.

Your last car? Is there something you're not telling us?

The Wedgwood 75?  Someone bought it way back in the summer.  As stupid as it sounds, I just couldn't get over the colour.  Weirdly, the Rover specialist I bought it from (who was offered it by the only owner) said the same.  Or he would have kept it!!

These are an excellent car when correctly propelled and geared.

What are the top two and bottom two to drive?

Likewise what are the top two and bottom two, to properly live with long term, i.e. bills.

[That was a question to all comers]

Maybe a 2001 V6 75 Connoisseur in British Racing Green with beige leather and electric seats would fit the bill? One with solid history and cambelts and thermostat housing done recently? Personal registration and very nice all round.

Edit. Not for sale apparently. Mrs Beard says NO.

She loves it.

Mine is now way down in the South of France- chap came all the way on a plane to pick it up, have a motoring holiday in Scotland then drive it home. Got a note from the guy a few weeks back saying it's all French registered and MOT'd now. I loved looking at it, loved sitting in it, but to drive- a bit meh. It was top spec and Monogram,V6,Serpents, Private plate, Auto with all the toys except Harmann and Sat Nav, and everything worked. I made the mistake in getting slightly involved with the owners club. I stuck it on Ebay to find it's own price and I think I came out with about £750 all told. Obviously because the belts were about to snap as it was a year over...

I Agree with seeking out something a bit different. There's so many options with the monogram range. I always find myself looking as mgrover.info where you can determine how many of a certain spec were made with the aim of finding a 1 of 1. IIRC "yoss" had a yellow mg estate that was originally a rapid response ambulance. Maybe not everyone's cup of earl grey but I loved it and like any car that's a bit different and has an interesting history. I even tried to buy the wrecked longbridge security 75 but it had been scrapped after sittting abandoned on the perimeter of the site.

I really should have a drive of a 75 to see what all the fuss is about. Maybe I'd like them , it happened with Binis, X5s and Cayennes and I hated all of those with a passion I've never managed to muster for the 75.

My Rover history includes a P5 3 Litre, many SD1s and even a KV6 Sterling. I've driven thousands of miles in 200s (SD3&R8) 400s,600s and 800s as company cars.

During the late 80's early 90's I worked with John Towers' wife and on dropping her home one night in an XM , he came out to have a look and said something like " The new 800 is going to ride better than these"

What he didn't say is that it would be the size of a 600, the price of an 800 and look like it was designed by Mitsouka!

I've harboured desires for a ZT 260 like any normal person , but what I'd really like is a rwd auto LWB estate with a 3.0 BMW diesel. Then I could get excited about Personal Line piping and black sills like all you other pervs.

Just saying like.......

Love that blue, was the same as the roffle I won off RobT.  Gorgeous colour.  They also look fab in that yellow and cream, and most blues.  Did they ever do black on it?

I too love these cars, but they just frighten me too much mechanically.  And I don't get on with the seats, which is a problem.

Yes they did black - the one my replacement KV6 came from was black.  Dark Fantasy is my favourite - good luck finding the one saloon or 2 tourers that were made :)
