Beautiful day today!

Mojo slowly returning!

Forgot to take a before photo but I put a couple of plates on the Wolseley today, first ones of the year.post-19511-0-24952300-1520974765_thumb.jpg hard to get a pretty weld on thin steel but it will be ground down and filled so who cares!

Had time to do one more plate. A simpler shape than the last onepost-19511-0-61542900-1520974914_thumb.jpgpost-19511-0-49473800-1520974931_thumb.jpg

That'll do for today. I'll have to get the wing off to tackle the rest...

Right, today I finally bit the bullet and got the left hand wing offpost-19511-0-10414500-1521658433_thumb.jpg

Bit holy under therepost-19511-0-58021700-1521658468_thumb.jpgpost-19511-0-24343600-1521658489_thumb.jpg

Now this isn't a Granada coupe restora

tion so originality is not an issue. Also my banger racing experience came in handy so the missing box section that should be made of thin tin is now thick box section straight from the stockholderspost-19511-0-71711400-1521658619_thumb.jpgpost-19511-0-53475100-1521658645_thumb.jpg

But there is always more to dopost-19511-0-88116100-1521658680_thumb.jpgpost-19511-0-99097300-1521658715_thumb.jpg

Found this half done plate that had been put on many years ago

Absolutely brilliant work. You have my fullest admiration. Just wonderful to see it being brought back to life. I've been in love with these ever since that yellow one (which lived just up the road from me when I were a nipper) was on the custom show circuit. It was featured in Hot Car in April 73 and March 76, and Street Machine in March 84. Last time I saw it in the metal many years ago it was red with a big block V8. I always thought it was the bee's knees and have lusted after them ever since.

I may know where that car is... There is one matching that description hidden away in Knighton. The chap made it back in the seventies. Did you grow up in Oldham, pretty sure that is where he is from

Yay! just need 50 x 50 box down the chassis now.

.... bit random 'destruction derby' imagery :-

A film I saw, years ago, guy installed a big steel rail in his car (on a hydraulic ram!) and careered around totalling other cars... Cannot remember the film title, but deffo Septic :)

I grew up near Tunbridge Wells, Kent. The reg of the one I knew was 620 LPH, though the last time I saw it way back it was re-registered as OSL 109. DVLA reveals its tax last expired in 2002, so I suspect the worst. I remember as a nipper being overtaken by it as I was pushbiking over to the stock car racing at Cross-in-Hand (anyone remember that?).

Interestingly, the current Practical Classics features a Scimitar in the Your Cars section, whose owner lives in Knighton and says he owns a Wolseley 1500 with a 5.8 litre Chevy V8. Wish they'd published a pic of that....hmm..the plot thickens...

Yep that's the chap. He also has a 1960s caravan. Must pop and see him. Will take photos

I look forward to that. It'd be great to think it might be the one I remember. After all, how many V8 W1500's can there be. Last time I saw it back in the 90's it was red with a flip front and Riley grille (though I much preferred it in its 70s yellow metalflake phase).

Anyway, we digress. Congrats again on the fabulous work on your own resto.

Not having touched it for ages, today I decided it was Holeseley day.

So I took some paint stripper to the front wing and removed several layerspost-19511-0-67984800-1527628180_thumb.jpg

Then while that was drying i took an angle grinder to the front panelpost-19511-0-81027800-1527628237_thumb.jpg

Cut a piece of Audi bonnet to fit and welded it inpost-19511-0-33529800-1527628294_thumb.jpg

As I was cleaning up the area with the grinding disc i noticed some small holes that I had missed with the first platepost-19511-0-02086500-1527628387_thumb.jpg I find it easier and quicker to do it this way rather than cut the lot out at once and try and fabricate a large area in one go.

Welds don't need to be pretty, it all gets linished off anywaypost-19511-0-15259000-1527628660_thumb.jpgthen a thin smear of fibreglass to seal the welds just in case of any pinholespost-19511-0-41945200-1527628728_thumb.jpg

But as usual, that area isn't quite done... I could have done this bit today but it was quite humid and I couldn't be bothered reallypost-19511-0-93935100-1527628822_thumb.jpg

Not to worry. No rush. Maybe next week

The light at the end of the tunnel?post-19511-0-04972700-1528280776_thumb.jpg

No, just a neighbour's Talbot camper I agreed to weld up ( good plan this, if you fix the neighbour's shite then they can't grumble about my grinding noise or paint fumes when I work on my own projects)

I shall do some more work on the Holeseley today, in between Talbot bodgerypost-19511-0-47153700-1528281281_thumb.jpg

So now, that corner is finally welded! ( apart from one tiny hole)

Used one of these to remove several layers of paintpost-19511-0-79690700-1528359483_thumb.jpgpost-19511-0-27817400-1528359497_thumb.jpg

Vicious buggers, you really need full face protection as when bits fly off they really hurt!

They are a fiver each so not cheap, and they don't last that long but they are the best way to remove several layers of old paint without using paint stripper. They don't damage the metal much either.

This corner is now ready for filler!

Oh and I think I've decided what colour the sides of the Wobseley will be:post-19511-0-06633600-1528469021_thumb.jpg

Fiat Bianco Corfu...

It's a creamier white than it looks on the photos. Would prefer Old English White but I'm trying to spend as little as possible in this project.

Ordered more than I needed to for the Talbot so that'll do!

I don't mind it, strangely. It's fiddly spannering I hate.

Did some more on the Talbot todaypost-19511-0-94432000-1528820637_thumb.jpg

Did a bit more on the Holeseley toopost-19511-0-50250200-1528820687_thumb.jpgpost-19511-0-80596000-1528820703_thumb.jpg

Got a bit carried away with the Talbot but I am charging him so it's ok. It feels like I've been paid to do the Holesely today!post-19511-0-56135100-1528820774_thumb.jpg
