uk_senator
Got offered this today, I`m not in a position to have it, so I thought I`d see if any of you lot want a piece. Its a 1976 1100 DL, 25,000 miles (done less than 1000 miles in the last decade, but he`s still kept it legal throughout), 2 local OAP owners from new, current owner (in his 80`s I reckon) has had it since 2001. Very original, not far off a minter. Located in Barnet area of north Londinium, he wants 1500 knicker. He also has 3 more, only one of which he really uses (one of the others is its spares donor, but he mostly uses his L-Plate Polo) but he`s also thinking about selling his beige Vanden Plas (which needs sill & floor welding & probably more, but is also low miles & late, on a W plate). Squire_Dawson
Very economical to run. The 1100 engine is fine in these cars and mine gives 47 omgmpg on a motorway run. Very reliable but has the annoying recurring fault of the exhaust joint to the engine constantly blowing. uk_senator and UltraWomble
wuvvum
Agree, these aren't a bad steer - not fast by any stretch but a much better bet than the later 998cc cars. I still baulk a bit at paying a bag and a half for an Allegro mind - I paid £45 for mine (although admittedly it had no test and nearly twice the mileage). uk_senator

He said he finds them economical (the main one he uses is a 1300), but this one, being an early base model, is much noisier that the S3, which is why he`s opted to let it go first. But I do accept it`d be almost impossible to find one as original as this, & with that mileage, so fair do`s to the bloke. White room it on ebay with a load of irrelevant crap copied & pasted from Wiki & you`d probably get £3995.. flat4alfa

Both the ADO16 and Metro A series did this - permanent fix was to weld in a flexi pipe at the 2 into 1 branch. Later K series cars came with a flexi pipe at this point as standard. barrett
Annoying. I've decided I really want another Allegro, specifically a series two, and that does look like a nice example, but this is definitely the wrong time for me.
blguy1975
It does look nice , Mothball the bugger and watch the value go up , What is the deal with the 2 S3 Aggros on the drive ?

It does look nice , Mothball the bugger and watch the value go up , What is the deal with the 2 S3 Aggros on the drive ?Exactly! Maybe do a bit of film/advert/worst-car-ever feature work to get some extra bunce on the side! Theres three S3`s there, a good, legal one, a rusty spares one & a semi dismantled VP that wants some metal replacing on the O/S sill & floor. Lovely colour is that blue. Its a nice, strong blue, one of the nicer agro colours.

sierraman
I don’t think £1500 is bad for a prime lump of 1970s cheese. In the 1970’s didn’t they have a decent reputation for rust resistance? uk_senator

SiC
Vermillion is my favourite BL colour. I do kinda regret not getting my MGB GT as it. However this colour is up there. I would really like this but its a bit expensive for me. Not to say its not a bad price, especially considering the miles. About the cheapest 70s design classic car you can get. uk_senator

BeEP
[quote name= and pageant blue is such an ace colour![/quote Actually Tahiti blue (which was replaced by pageant for 1979) should have regal blue interior for the all-over blue effect! uk_senator, Cavcraft and Skizzer
Squire_Dawson
In the 1970’s didn’t they have a decent reputation for rust resistance? Yes it is surprising how well protected they were. Certainly well above average for the time. Sigmund Fraud and uk_senator
MarvinsMom
funny how BL/ARG/Rover used the same names for colours, i had a Rover 25 bubble that was Tahiti blue too..... that blue though was a metallic navy blue, this one is i what i would describe as a royal blue. i got some bonus money in this months pay packet too, now just to talk kerry into taking a trip to that london. oldcars and uk_senator
BeEP
funny how BL/ARG/Rover used the same names for colours, i had a Rover 25 bubble that was Tahiti blue too..... Yes, they were a bit unimaginative. I've had both versions of Tahiti, first on an Allegro and second incarnation on a 420 HHR. Thinking about my earlier comment about the likely interior colour, I think it could also have had Mink (beige). As a long time Allegro owner I still can't get used to four figure prices, but if this one's as good as it looks I reckon £1500 is a very fair figure. Would need to paint the 'bib' back to the correct black though; they're just wrong in body colour! MarvinsMom and uk_senator

uk_senator
I dont think a bag-n-arf is unreasonable given its condition, originality & history. I had an Equipe about 20 years ago, I didnt gel with it personally, if this had been an estate (which I`ve always loved for some reason), or a (Tara green) Princess or a (Bronze yellow) 1300GT, I`d be all over it, although a GT in this condition would be at least double the price. The fact its one of those once everywhere, now almost vanished, quintessentially British cars, means its you'd likely be able to recoup some of the purchase price in film/advert work fairly easily.I`ll go back to get more pics & have a prod around when I can. He`s a quiet, but interesting & intelligent bloke, we were talking cars for about half an hour. Squire_Dawson, MarvinsMom and oldcars
