Rusty_Rocket
the headache carries on for much longerYou got that bit right. Seriously though, it's a nice return at £1k as a breaker but I wouldn't see it as a fixer upper, it'll do its best to break you in every way possible. Wack
I'm trying to weigh up the likelihood of the AA taking me where I want to go V the cost of getting it lifted and transported the 60 miles to Blackburn, not really sure I want to drive it anywhere if unburnt diesel is going to knacker the cat
nacho man
There has got to be money in breaking one of those if it all goes wrong, one of our lads has got a 04 one and the radio just stopped working, and it needs a bluetooth module thats hidden away in the boot, and there like £100 secondhand on ebay. If he sinks a grand into making his one work then he'll be able to get his money back. Also it looks a fairly honest thing. The initial repair isn't the issue though, it's the constant stream of expenditure that will follow! Like you say though, a £10k one will need the same level of upkeep. Good luck! Dave_Q
It's MOT'd until April next year. No advisories at all since 1st MOT in 2006 , one fail in 2013 for a bald tyre Just having a look for a diagnostic tool , this seems to be the tool of choice but it costs 1/2 a range rover https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IID-TOOL-BT-BLUETOOTH-PERSONAL-DIAGNOSTIC-TOOL-TFIIDBT-RANGE-ROVER-L322/281832889399?hash=item419e8c9c37:g:agQAAOSwvUlWqKTI Yo, you should be able to read the engine with BMW software, uses a wire like this and INPA/EDIABAS software that is available through the usual official* channels. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-USB-OBD-K-Dcan-Diagnostic-Cable-Switched-UK-INPA-DIS-SSS-NCS-Coding-ISTA/132393987096?hash=item1ed34bec18:g:oSIAAOSw0W5aBZc8 In fact, that cable is just a £5 ebay VAG-COM cable with a switch or an extra wire or summat soldered in, if you want I can try and dig out a link later for how to DIY it if you want to score a few extra mingebag points. The Reverend Bluejeans
Fix the engine (iron block M57) and sell it on for 4500-5000 quid. A plan, if you don't suffer from cantbearseditis.
Wack
Well I've been and had a look , it's a straight enough car , he's had into a LR specialist who've diagnosed piston rings , we took it for a quick spin and it feels smooth enough even on 5 and a bit cylinders , tailgate is clean, one rust spot on a wheel arch and a bit of a scuff on the NS wing where he hit a duck , both jobs a dent man could do It needs a set of tyres but they're not huge wheels so shouldn't be that bad , pixels are dying on the radio display which is a common problem, it had a recon gearbox last year , front air suspension this year and pads all round Best bit , he can get it delivered to my garage in Blackburn for £80 so I don't need to tax it, Done deal bought it mat_the_cat, DeeJay, rantingYoof and 26 others

John F
I'm not sure what's more impressive... the fact that Wack's scored a running(-ish) L322 with MOT for £1000 or the fact that someone's apparently managed to cross-breed a skunk with an alpaca ^^ . chodweaver and Lacquer Peel
New POD
They'll be canbus controlled, but aye it's complication for the sake of it. Canbus just needs to know that it's sending a signal to something that thinks it's a light and having got that signal, borrows a bit of voltage to make it function. So every light can have the same code, and be interchangeable, or have a code that only it's ECU knows, thus preventing it from being used in a different car and thus NOT deterring a thief from stealing the car to break, unless they have the correct software. Which they do. It's only the honest shitter, that doesn't have access to the software. richardthestag
Guest Hooli
Yeah, complication for the sake it. Oh & the ability to charge a fortune for parts that should be cheap.
Wack
I've already got one car with crazy parts prices , luckily there's a Maserati breaker 5 miles away , one of the rubber door seals had a split in it so I went onto eurospares , I think it must be a parts match for a space shuttle door seal because they wanted £700+ vat for it so I got a puncture patch kit from Halfords What I don't understand is some luxury car manufacturers accept when the cars get old the value drops so the only way they're ever going to make money or even see them in the workshop again is to charge reasonable prices for parts and a reduced labour rate , but not all obviously dome and Lacquer Peel

Wack
thankfully it's not a TDV8, BMW 3.0 engines are ten a penny , spoke to steve today, if the engine is knackered he's suggesting to look for a full car that's either been stuffed at the back or bolloxed in some other way other than the engine so I can hear it running rather than a lump on a pallet from an unknown but until the head is off we won't know, could just be a burned out valve
