Today also saw some working on the 172 Exclusive #60.

Having dropped it's backbox on the way home from getting the drivers driveshaft replaced, it's only had an exhaust to the rear axle.

I'd scooshed the mount bolts and the nuts on the c clamp for the sleeve join with Remonstrating fluid earlier in the week and had high hopes..

This was the sight that greeted me - it'd obvious had at least 1 replacement mount before as it was fixed with a mix of 13mm and 8mm headed bolts.

All the bolts came out cleanly, and a new ' uprated' mount was fitted. The stock rubber aftermarket ones fail far too easily, so polyurethane was the way to go!

Happily, the c clamp nuts loosened off fine, and the backbox mated right up. 10mins start to finish.

Good to see that fixed.

But that rusty rail it attaches to is what I hate about cars. How do manufacturers get away with it?

Ben

It's actually pretty sound and I'll get it cleaned up and treated with Vactan.

It doesn't help having felt cover between rear wheel and exhaust?!

God knows why

Bang and stop resolution today!

My brother came over and helped me out despite lying snow, flooding and delightful sub zero temps.

Firstly, we fitted a second new driveshaft to the burd's Clio (#54) so we could move it to get #60 into position.

The aim was simple this evening - get some semblance of an actual disc on the driver rear of the Clio.

First thing to do was hit up the hubnut with the 30mm socket on the buzzgun.

We got it in the air and got the wheel off.

The disc pulled off easily, and the disc spacer stayed put:)

Time to inspect the damage - looks like quite the failure!

We took the seal off the piston and cleaned it up. Luckily the sliders were working freely.

Then it was wound back in, and the new disc was fitted.

The new pads were fitted and we tested it. It seems to be releasing ok, bit I'm going to check it over in the daylight tomorrow before taking it out for a drive.

I'll likely also do the other side too ..

I ordered some discs and pads for mine today, so cheers for the pictures.

It's not too bad a job - the piston is a wind in - clockwise to push it back.

And make sure you dont damage the brake fitting kit:)

Also, do your new discs have the bearings already fitted?

What brake fitting kit?? Yeah comes with abs rings and bearings, hoping it comes with new hub nuts too. Hoping the disc spacers don't get damaged too.

There's a retaining bar at the bottom and 2 spring clips that hold the pads in - like this. It's usually ok, but depends on the luck of the draw.

Disc spacers are usually ok tbh:)

I had to change mine as it had been rubbing against something, I was gonna take it to pirtek for a repair, but the nut and pipe the goes into steering rack had seized together so I wrecked it in the process, so I had to replace it.

I struggled to get a replacement but a badly listed eBay one came to the rescue.

Good luck removing the pipe from the rack, access looks a nightmare with engine in place, fortunately I swapped mine while the engine was out.
